WE DELIVER Phone 3-5428 Local Pledges Are Entertained On Wednesday, December 7, tbe pledges of Alpha Delta Theta na tional society sorority entertained at a tea from four until six in the after noon in honor of the pledges of the other sororities. Miss Thelma Albright and Dr. Ethel Abernethy, faculty advisers of the local chapter, assisted Mildred Taylor, president of the pledges in receiving the guests, who were mem bers of the faculty, pledges, and two active members of the five other sororities on the campus. It seemed to be in the very air—from the pungent odor of the tall fir tree in the best front parlor to the spicy fragrances issuing from the warm kitchen where Mammy was concocting all manner of festive dishes. Fruit cake, rich and dark, baskets of cookies, crisp and tantalizing, the plum pudding, al ready soaking in brandy. This was the one time in all the year when Mammy out did herself and everyone simjily gorged. Everything bespoke festivity. Pres ents were already piled deep under tbe tree in the front parlor. There were those tiny fascinating gifts—a Jeweled pin or perhaps a pair of cuff links; the large packages which one could almost be sure were new games for the children; then tliere were those shapeless bundles which, no doubt, contained gifts the girls DOMESTIC LAUNDRY, INC. Home of had made themselves, a knitted scarf for father or an uncle, mittens for the twins, a shawl for grandmother, socks for the boys wbo were away at school all year, something for every one. Through the curtained windows one could see the white-blanketed land scape and get occasional glimpses of the children following the sled whicli bore the huge Yule log. They were throwing snowballs and having a merry time. This was Christmas. Local League Entertains Bovs Snow swirled down onto the busy streets where Jostling masses of humanity hurried, hurried. Confec tioners’ shops and bakers’ windows offered all manner of tantalizing dainties — crisp cookies, tarts, and rich, dark fruitcake, view with vari colored mints and nuts. One could almost see—a large soft-car peted living room—the silver dipped tree dripping with tinseled orna ments and glowing with liglits, the daintily wrapped presents gracefully arranged beneath them. And tbe children, with their little noses press ed so wistfully to the cold window panes, waiting. Ah, yes, this is Christmas. EAT I DIXIE KRISP I j POTATO CHIPS j I Made in Charlotte | Tile League of Evangelical Stu dents entertained thirty Davidson College boys at a hayride and skating party last Friday night at 7:16 o’clock. Sixty boys and girls piled on a truck filled with hay here on the campus and went out to the skating rink. Throughout tbe evening, the skaters were refreshed by coffee, doughnuts, and apples. Frances Hunter was in charge of arrange ments for the evening.
