BB March 4, 1939 OIIEENS BLUES Page 3 Alpha Gamma Delta Cornelia went home last week-end after sev^eral days spent in the hospital. We are glad to say that she has fully recuperated. Anne Carr and Jebbie went to Hamlet last week-end, and Virginia Went to Badin where, to use the old and time-worn, hut appropriate everything was Jake! Martha Miller, Julie’s cousin, was her guest on the campus last week end and a cheery accessory she proved to be, too. We wish to express our sincere sympathy to Annie Laurie Anderson and Isabel in their recent bereave ment. Prize surprise of the week: Jose- line has mumps. Prize Pleasure: Lemmon came. Among the alums who are here for initiation this week-end we find: Betty Hunter, Mamie Hunter, Becky Autcn, Vivianne Bane Larson, Lois Meechan Smith, Elva Anne Sarratt, Annie Murray Long, Mary Franklin, Alice Timmons, Martha Raney, Susie Devareux, and Mar}^ Franklin. There are others but my memory fails me phi Kappa Delta This’n That from Here and There— We were all mighty happy to pledge Lynn two weeks ago.. . . Saw Caddie Willis in town for the picture show with Eleanor Hayes about ten days ago . . . I-ucy got a good taste of cooking and housekeeping when her family went to New Orleans . . • Tiny went to Charleston last week-end and Nell went to Winston-Salem . . • Marguerite went to the pledge dances at State . . . Alice went home for a week because of a cold . . . Jane Wiley Ruth is in town now with her mother who has just had an operation Mrs. Wiley is one of our patronesses and we are mighty sorry she is sick . . . Franny Smith is yet to find the short est way home on Saturdays . . . Olive certainly does look better after her trip home . . . Something tells about five of us that something oughta hap pen at that party tonight, but far be it from anyone of the five to men tion it . . . The actives are having a party at the Sharon Golf Club for the pledges and it promises to be lots of fun . . .’Something bad is wrong with Lucy’s mail service—she didn’t get one very nice letter that was mailed on the 21st of last month until the 25th—kinda bad, doncha think . . • The pledges had their pledge exams Wednesday night and there surely was lot of cramming done Tuesday night now. MODEL laundry Phi Mu Now that fraternity exams are over, everyone is anticipating initiation this ifternoon and the banquet tonight in the ballroom at Hotel Charlotte to welcome the new initiates into the chapter. Lucy and Billie went home last Sunday and home this week-end. Alene spent the week-end with Kath ryn Raiford in Concord and Alfred came down to see her. Jane is count ing the days until Bill comes again. Libha spent last Sunday in Chapel Hill with friends. Mary Elva goes walk ing on Sunday afternoons with a cer tain young man whose name is David —and that’s all we can find out; Everyone is still gazing in awe at Betty’s ring. It is beautiful. Anyone who wants to see our Seni ors these days will be given a merry chase because all their time is taken up with practice teaching. They tell some rare tales about it too. Eleanor has been so excited lately over the new furniture in the day student house that it is a small won der anyone has succeeded in getting her to talk about anything else. Mrs. Sherrill, one of our patron esses, from Concord and Mrs. Rich mond were guests at the feed Sunday night. Flowe and Billy had a fin'e feed. Mary Phillips from Tifton, Ga., came up to see us not so long ago. She was very active when she was in school and she is doing a very good job of school teaching these days. We were very glad to see her. Some one eke is counting the days until he comes. You know Nank and Doris Raley, tile inseparables, they had the best time ever at P. C. last week-end, and ’course Margaret Mac went along to see Kohn. They all show distinct signs of a grand time Priss Poole’s mother was a visitor in Morrison last Thursday night and she took Priss back to Mullins with ler. The Citadel fellow got his week ends mixed and didn’t get up. Mary Gunn had Martie Jeffries of Hamlet as her guest over last week end and on Sunday night, Mrs. Davis was a visitor at the feed The Gwaltneys had fun at the Davidson game last Saturday night and Agnes Hope had another funny experience at Wake Forest the week end before. Martha and Annette graced fair Mt. Gilead over the week-end and Nannette again saw Abbeville and Ileita went home to Concord. Ellen went to Graham two week ends ago but settled down to phone calls and Dobbie last. Hilda re cuperated from flu in McBee two weeks ago and “Tut” went home to Lanes, Friday. Frank Poole went to Lenoir, Tryon and Hendersonville Sunday and got the real Spring feeling From latest reports, Eddy has a lovely apartment, Harold’s skiing, and everything’s fine—we’ll surely miss her at initiation. Chi Omega June Escott and Georgia Under wood both spent last week-end in Lexington, Va., where they attended the V. M. I. mid-winters. They re ported a gay time. Sara Kelly Lill'ard went to Elkin last week-end and took Frances Stough with her as a guest. Also Sally Crosland went to Bennettsville. Helen Cumnock and Pan Peyton were in Davidson. Eleanor Alexander went to Knoxville for the week-end, return ing with her father. Lib Maynard has returned to her teaching duties in Chesterfield after representing our chapter at the Alumnae Fireside recently held in Cincinnati, Ohio, Maujer* Moseley and Nancy Hovis are both sporting Phi Gam pins now! Several of our alums are with us this week-end for initiation. Among them are Lib Maynard, Thorburn Lil- lard Sager, Martha Ware Small, Mary Currie^ Lib Calder, ppy Carter, Jean Stough, Georgie Underwood, and of course many, many others. Grayce Hackney, who was initiated in the fall, returned from Florida for initiation. New initiates, actives, and pledges are enjoying a spend-the-night party at Sitter Hunter’s river cabin follow ing tbe banquet tonight. We do hope that she will continue in her present healthy state. As usual, Marjorie and Jagar went to Winnsboro, while Catherine wired down at the last minute that it was impossible to come. We are certainly home-bodies at heart. Frances Marion was called home because of a death in her family and returned on Monday. Annie Mae spent last Sunday in Hamlet, and Helen Pope went home. Oh, well, even if we did all go home, there may be definite attractions there. We are all so excited about initiation we can’t think of an inter esting thing to say.
