November, 1955 THE EARLY BIRD Page Five The Tri-County Resource Use Conference Dr. Rupert Picott, Executive Secretary of the Virginia Tea chers’ Association, Richmond, Va was the dynamic speaker at the Tri-County Resource Use Confer ence held at the Caswell County Training School, Yanceyville, ^ C. October 20 at 2:00 P. M. The theme “Utilizing Resources for the Improvement of Mental Hea th” was most interestingly deve loped in the speaker’s address, Greetings were extended to members of the conference by Mr. T. PI. Whitley, Superinten dent cf Caswell County Schools The response was given by Mrs, B. B. Redding, Orange Stree School, Oxford, N. C. Area consultants and the co ordinators were as follows: Hu man Relations, Dr. W. A. Blount A & T College and J. H. Lucas Principal, Orange Street Schoo Oxford, N. C., Music, Miss G. L Gidney, Burlington and Miss Banks, Person County, Art, Mr T. Diggs, Winston-Salem Teachers College, and Miss V. S. McKnight, Person County, Religion, Rev. T C. Williams, Jr., Yanceyville anc Rev. G. C. Hawley, Oxford, Re creation, Holbard Allen, Danville Va., and G. Nelson, Jr., Yancey ville, and Miss C. B. Carrington Caswell County. Dr. Theodore Speigner, Director of Resource-Use Education, Dur ham, N. C. served as consultan at large. Following reports from the area conference the group enjoyetl ac tion songs after which they were invited to the Cafeteria for a de lightful service of open-face sand wiches and punch. 2E News Mrs. C. Patricia Burwell, Reporter Health Group From University of North Carolina Visits School On Wednesday, October 12, 1955, a health group from the University of North Carolina un der the direction of Dr. Rosemary Kent and Dr. Castle visited the first grade classrooms, and some third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade classrooms in our school. They observed our general school plant, classrooms and our children. It was a pleasure and an honor to have had this group visit us and we hope they were able to gain information that will be help ful to them in their studies and also helpful to us in our school health program. They expressed themselves to our pricipal, Mr. J. H. Lucas, as having been very favorably im pressed with the activities being carried on at Orange Street School. 6R News B. B. We are very glad that two of our class mates are members of the Patrol Force, one belongs to The Early Bird Staff, and two are members of the Glee Club.
