Diseases Bye, Bar, Nose, Throat. General Surgery. Dear Readers:—I thought I would make an effort to write a few lines, as I would like to get acquainted with the paper and you. We have been enjoying ourselves hear ing the word of God. On !Fri day night before the 3rd Sun day, Eld. S S. Kirk began a meeting, assisted by Eld. J.C. Voliva, and closing Thursday night with three additions. We bad a delightful time, the spirit of God was with us. Saturday was q'larterly meet ing and we washed each other’s feet. Dear readers, believe in washing feet, I don’t know what you believe, but trust you believe the Bible. It makes me rtjoice to think weean humble ourselves and wash the brothers’ and sis ters’ feet. Did not Christ wash the disciples' feet? Read the 13th chapter of John and see what it says It reads like this: “And supper being ended, the Devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to be tray him, Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, that he was come from God, and went to God, he riseth from supper and laid aside liis gar ments, and took a towel and girded himself, after that he reader would tell me. Do you think Christ would have told us to have done anything that wasn’t good? I believe every word in the Bible, and am satisfied to die with my belief as I think I am right. I would be glad for you tosend me your paper as I believe it is good. Your sister in Christ, Mrs. Sidney A. Sawyer. Winsteadville, N. C. SACBIFICE. MT. MORIAH UNION. poured wate^ in^tj a basin, and began to wash tlieSlsci- ples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girted. Then cometh be to Simon Peter, and Peter sayeth unto him, “Lord, dost thou wash my feet?’’ Jesus answered and said unto him, “What I do thou knowest not now, buttboushaltkuow hereafter.” Peter said unto him, “Thou shalt never wash my feet.” ]esus answered him, ‘‘If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.” Simon Peter saith unto him, “Not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.” After be had washed theii feet, and was sat down again, he said unto them, “Know ye w’hat 1 have done to you? ye call me Master and Lord, and ye say w’ell, for so I am, if I then your Lord and Master have washed your feet, le also ought to wash one another’s feet, for I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you; verily, verily, I say unto you, theser- vant is not greater than his Lord, neither he that is sent greater than him, if ye know these things happy are ye if yc do them.” The 34-th verse of this chapter says, “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another as I have loved von, ‘'By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” Ycu can read this and st e whether it is a command or not. I don’t aim to skip some parts of the Bible and keep some parts. I am writing this to gain information, as some say feet washing is no good. How can man say the Bible is not good? I say when any one says, feet washing is no good, they deny the Bible, what does the word "ought" mean? I would be glad some The union of the Mt. Prayer by Eld. J. W. Wallers. J. T. Crawford, Mod. J. F. GriNN, Clerk, pro tew. Dear Pdito^r:—I would like to say a few’ words about sacrifice. I have sacrificed good part ol 12 years for the Free Will Baptist doctrine. The Lord ha- blessed my la bors. The Lord has wonder fully blessed our district this year. 1ft .. ..-.c.'.ibrr of the Free Will B-ptist would make an equal sacrifice, according to the way they have pros pered, the doctrine would spread rapidly, over this land of ours. It seems that the great trouble with the Free Will Baptist churches is that they want the preachers to make all the sacrifices, while they do nothing. Now, if I understand the Book of God, every onesbould help carry the Gospel, and bear one another’s burdens The prophet said, “Woe to them that are at ease in Zion.” James says, “Faith without w’orks is dead.” Paul sajs, “To not muzzle the mouth of the ox that tread eth out the corn.” That is just what the Free Will Bap tist as a majority are doing today, and if they have any thing to give, they give i.t to some other denomination. Now, we know.that weteach the doctrine of Christ, let us support it with our temporal uiessings. use God re • tjuires It aE ou • bands. God speaking through Malachi, says, “Will you rob God? Y'ea, the whole nation hath robbed me in tithes and in offering, Now, I feel just like the Free Will Baptist are guilty to a great extent. Let us wake up, go down in our pockets, and send the true Gospel far and wide, and not require the preachers to do it all. God says, he is going to reward every man according to bis works. I fear it will go hard with many Free Will Baptist, as many live in the church for years and never give a dollar; never even give their pastor a bushel of corn or potatoes The sisters don’t even givehis poor wife a dress. Theyseem not to realize the great sacri free the poor wife has to make in order that the Gospel be preached to them. This may be hard sayings to many, but brethren I aip speaking from experience a'l’id according to the Book -)f i»od. I hope . .'-roy that i \cry one will be., aroused to do their duty, and will do more for the cause next year than ever before. Brethren, wehave the true doctrine, let us sup port it one and all. Y ours in Jesus, Eld. O. a. Asiicrakt, INFLUENCE. GOOD MEETING CLOSED. I have just closed a meeting at Piney Grove, Beaufort Co , with 14 additions. It was one of the best meetings I was ever in, and the crowds were very large. The church has engaged me to hold their pro traded meeting next year, to begin the 4th Sunday in Sept, if it is the will t>f the Lord. May the Lord ever bless the people of that community. Yours in the work, J. T. Butler. Dear Editor;—Does your influence help some one on to eternal life, or death? 1 don’t suppose there is any one but what has more or less influence. If you are liv- iug an ungodly life thereby causing some friend to go astray, just stop and think for a moment who you are working for. Why, you are dragging your friends and as sociates down to an endless hell. “Choose you this day whom you will serve.” Are we serving God or mammon? Ask yourself this question, “who am I doing the most for?” I have traveled hun dreds of miles, first and last, and I never have been able to see some one going through the train selling religions lit erature, but the Devil has his agents busy all the while sell ing novels and trash of all sorts, and -you know he is winning tbeday to agreatex- tent. Let us as Christians put our shoulder to the wheel, and see if we can’t let our light shine, see if we can’t in fluence some poor soul toturn to God, I just feel like if 1 should give my whole life for his cause, I never could pay him for what he has been to me, for he is continually bless ing mt. I bs'’’been sick for 19 days, have been deprived of being at our good prayer meetings, but I pray and praise God, and he pours out his blessings in my soul while I am on the bed. It is 2 o’clock at night, all are asleep but me, but being awake I began to study about my blessed Redeemer, I could not sleep, but I felt impressed and burdened of how this old world is going on until I thought I would write and perhaps my influence might do some soul good. “For as much then as Christ hath suf fered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind, for he that hath suffered in thee hath ceased from sin.” I want to say a few words about bell. Hell is the very opposite of heaven. If heav en is a place where people who obey God go. Hell is the place where people go who do not obey God. I want you to look at bell, and see what is going on there. In the first place hell cannot be any better than the forks who go there. It is a placeofdark- ness shrouded in sin and suf fering, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. No tice who are there. The Bible says, “The fearful, the unbe lieving, the abominable, mur derers, whoremongers, sor- ctrs, idolaters, liars, in fact every sinner.. One sin unre pented of will take you to hell. Sin, in God’s sight is sin, when the will isenvolved, whether actually committed or not, “Whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend in one point is guilty of all.” If you break one link in a chain, you have separated the chain, and if a man breaks one of God’s laws, he will sep arate the law and spend eter nity in woe, unless he repents, as though he had broken the whole law. 2nd Cor. 8; 12, “For if there first be a will ing mind, it is accepted ac cording to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.” 2ad chapter 1st verse, “Having these promis es, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthness of the flesh and spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” Dear friends, let us take God at his word, and trust his promises, and if we go to hell it will be our own fault for Christ stands ready to save. Pray for me that I may get closer to Christ every day, and that I may stay low down and humble at his feet. Hoping to hear from some of the Glennville sisters, I am yours in the cause, Mrs. Lela Patter.son. Taylorville, Fla. A GREAT MOTHER. The mother of John Quincy Adams saiil in a letter to him when he was only twelve; “I would rather see you laid in your grave than grow up a profane and graceless boy.” Not long before his death a gentleman said to him: “I have found out who made you. “What do you mean?” ask- Mr^ Adams. “I have been reading the published letter of your moth- “If,” this gentleman relates, “I had spoken that name to some little boy who had been for weeks aw’ay from his mother, his eyes could not have flashed more brightly nor his face grow more quick ly than did the eyes and face of that venerable old man when I pronounced the name of his mother. He stood up in his peculiar way and said: ‘‘Y^es, sir, all that is good in me I owe my mother.”—Se lected. SIN’S PLEASURES UNREAL. During his last days Ver laine, the brilliant French po et who recently passed away, was occupied in covering the squalid furniture of his squalid rooms with gold paint. The reason of the poor fellow was gone, and it pleased his wild eyes and disordered fancy to reckon the worthless furni ture of bis miserable lodgings as the golden garniture of pal- laces. So the distempered soul, drugged with the opium of vanity and passion looks upon base, vulgur, and ruin ous things and habits as al- togather beautiful and pre cious. But Verlaine’s yellow’ furniture did not sell for gold, and the day inevitably comes when those who have lived a worldly and godless life awake to the vanity of things and pursuits for which they gave and suffer so much. And it shall even be as when a hungry mandreameth, and, behold, he eateth: but he awaketh, and his soul is empty; or as w’hen a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, hedrinketb; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite.”™Ex. NOTICE OF (GA.) STATE CON VENTION. Dear Editor:—Per a move of the Ga. Union Association, I ask space to notify the F. W. B. of Ga,.. of the state con vention, which is to meet at New Prospect church. Turner Co,, Ga. Thursday night be fore the third Sunday in Nov., 1907. Delegates will be met at Sycamore, Ga., Thursday. Sycamore is on the Ga. South ern and Fla. R. R. Those who cannot get there on Thursday, and wish to come Friday will please notify Eld. S. N. Little, Ashburn (ia., R. F. D. 2, as it is the desire of the good brethren of New Prospect church to meet all delegates, and see that they are cared for. This is the time for us to act, if we ever intend to do anything in Ga , with a state convention. The brethren say 'they are going to spare no means, but are going to do all they can to make the convention a suc cess; so if the convention is a failure, it will not be on the part of New Prospect church, it will be on the part of the Association of Ga, The Chat tahoochee Association of Ga., has appointed six delegates to attend. The Ga, Union has appointed four. TlieGa. Union has provided means to send its delegates, and if all tbo GA. Associations will do this, we will have a strong delegation, and a successful convention, and God will bless us. Written by order of the Ga. Association, in session Oct. 12th, 1907. Eld. G. W. Nobles, Mod. W. G. Barker, Clerk. Eld. W. C. Jones, Chosen writer. Macon, Ga. LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE. Dear Editor:—We read in the 18th chapter of Luke, where two men went out to pray, and one of them thank ed God he was not as other men, and the other one smote upon his breast and said, “God be merciful to me a sin ner.” Christ said that man went away justified. Why? Because he was humble. We must all get that way, for Christ said, “Except ye be converted, and become as lit tle children, ye cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.” Do we humble ourselves as we should, and do we let our light shine? If we are not right let ns get right. If we cannot preach, there is some thing we can do, for we must not wait for the preacher to do all. We can pray for sin ners and beg them to turn from sin, for Christ has told us to pray without ceasing. Sinners, where are yon stand ing? On the brink of woe and gloom. Will you not turn be fore it is too late? Suppose death should come before you turn, what would your con dition be? Death goes to every home, and it doesn’t wait for you to et ready. Christ said “In ai, nour when you think not, the Son of man cometh.” Let us let our light shine, that the sinner seeing our good works may turn to God before it is too late. I desire the prayers of the Christian people. Yours in hope of heaven, Salonia Creekmore, Nashville, N. C, R. 1,
