wSI'iITHFI7.LD HIGH TBES '•LET’S Have A PAIiTY" The party season at dear ole SHS really started with a "bang” when Margaret Reid invited all her pals over to her house on the night of the first day of school. All the "crazy cats" took advantage of the last week night for a party by jumping into their cars and heading for Mar garet’s, Hubert, Avis, Harvey, Sashie, Joan Kaye and gobs of others were there keeping the party going strong. On Friday night of the same week P-nut Edwards threw a "Welcome Home Part^H'^Tor Warner Wells who spent the latter part of the summer in Europe. Mary Ann Honeycutt, Susan Johnson, Jerry langdon. Tucker, Robin and the rest of the gang were all there to welcome Warner home and find out - about his trip. Some of the ’57 grads, Ronald, Ed Rose, Ann Stallings, and Emma were also there havihg their last fling before going to college. The Debutante Ball seemed to attract many of the local teen agers, Darby, Ruthie Wellons, Ann Mallard, Jerry Langdon, Ann Booker, Jimmy George, Better Mac, and Gail were all there having the time of their lives. They agreed the commanders were the greatest and it was a night never to be forgotten. Next on the social agenda was a progressive supper held by several seniors and one lone junior on the ' night of the first ballgame. Emily, Katherine, Susan Creech, and an old grad Sally Wood were among the gals eating and catching up on the latest news. Following the ball game with Benson, the juniors threw a Victory Ball at the hut. The red and white decorations and the Red Devil figures really helped in keeping the school spirit alive while bushels of SHSers talked about the game and feasted on the delicious food. Tommy Boone, Nancy Lassiter, Clyda lynn, Jack Broad- hurst, Peter Rabbit and loads of other juniors who helped with the Open House deserved a gold medal for such a swell party. Saturday rolled around and Ann Batten decided to have the gang over to her house. Jerry Barefoot, Sammy, Thel, Penny, Bonnie Creech, Betty Abell, and Phil Ennis were just a few of the cats over at Ann's who were discussing the game the night be fore and dancing on the carport. Also on the same night Mary Joe Brown had several of her friends over to play a couple of hands of bridge, Julia, Katherine, Gai]., Mary Nell, and Jackie were among the "bridge hounds" taking pai’t in the sport which seems to have struck Smithfield by storm® Since Burgaw is so close to the beach Mary Ann Stallings decided to have a few girls as her guests for the weekend at Carolina Beach. Ruthie Wellons, Julie, Ann Booker, and Susan Creech were some of the girls who kept the roads hot from Carolina to Wilmington and Wrightsville. On the Saturday after the Burgaw game, Jackie and Clyda L3nin were two surprised gals. The occasion was their birthdays, so Mary Nell and Judy Coats gave them a "bridge luncheon." Betsy Johnson, Nancy Dance, Priscilla, Mary Jo Warr, and Gwen Jones were right there bidding and eating. That night Kay Bridgers invited loads of her friends out to her home on H olt lake Road, Jerry Highsmith, Gloria Hinton, Lena Rose, David Lee, and Eddie WiUcins were some of the kids out there having a blast. The next home game was with B eul^aville and the silly sophs (no offense) decided to hold Open House following the game. Norman Whitley, Danny Talton, Emily,
