SMITHFIELD HIGH TIMES Arme BLogers, Roy Land, P~nut, Kenneth V^foodard and gobs of rejoicing Red Devils were there rocking the hut and keeping the party going stronge Cinda Grantham sxirprised Mary Helen on her birthday with a party at her home. The party proved to be different from any other one ever held in Smith- field. In the middle of the dance floor a gang v/ere involved in a friendly game of hearts, while in another room Donna Ann, Ann Batten, Pat Vi/hitley, and Stevie Mackler were engaged in a game called '•I Doubt It,” Tony Lee, Skipper, Sam Creech, and Diana Bess were taking part in another card game and in a corner-of the room Julia, Douglas Hobgood, Mary Ann Stallings, and Lib Holland were matching wits in a hand of bridge. Still, in another room Phil Gurganus and Jimmie Ennis were engrossed in a game of checkers iinder the supervision of Jerry Barefoot. A few of the “squares” dancing were Lester, Edgar, Roy Brown, Bud, Adalia, and G inger. Bridge again provided the entertainment when Mary Joe Brown’s mother surprised her with a “birthday bridge” party. Dottie, Ann Booker, Phyllis, Ann Hamilton, Jean Parker, and Ann Mallard were a few of the gals who were taking part in the bidding. On Saturday after the Warsaw game everyone was “searching” for a party so Ginger Manning decided to open the doors of her home and ' invited all her friends over. Avis, Tucker, Jimmy George, George Patterson, Penny, and Kay Faulk were right there dancing and having a ball. After the game Emily Faulk gave Bonnie Walters a beach party “cause Bonnie is leaving dear ole Sraithfield soon and she’s really gonna be missed. Roy Land, Harvey, Priscilla, Jean'Parker, Robert Woodard, Bonnie, and Sherwood reported a swell weekend, but not much sleep. Jack’s Grill was the scene of the local gathering following the Mount Olive football game. The Red Devils and practically everybody was out there celelm?ating the Devil’s victory and undefeated record, "The Rock and Roll Pneumonia and Boogie Woogie Flu” seemed to have dwindled the population, but it certainly didn.’t hinder the spirits of those who haven’t been bitten by the bug yet. Next the long awaited Fresh man Dance was held at the Legion Hut. The Halloween theme was carried out to remind the local teenagers of the approaching night on October 31« Julie and Douglas were in charge of the affair and should be commended for an excellent job, Joan Kaye, Jerry Langdon, Margaret Lee, Mary Ann Britt, Freddie Johnson, Brack, Macy, and Melzer were just a few of the high school crowd at the dance which officially welcomed the freshmen into SHS. Keep up the parties I *, Mary Ogie FROM THE CI-IEERLEADERS Students, Football season will soon be coming to an end and our team has really been doing a wonderful job. To show them how proud we are, let’s all go to the remaining games and give them all our support. Remember not to cheer when the boys are in formation, but please do cheer when the cheerleaders do. Always cheer cur team and never boo the other side, I know a lot of times we feel as if we have been treated unjustly by the referees, but let’s save the boos for Halloweeria Bas ketball practice will begin soon and I feel sure we will have two great teams this year. If a team knows that it has a lot of support from the stands then it will put forth a lot of effort, so let’s all come to the future games and support them. I want to thank all the students for their cooperation. Julie Hooks
