Then I could go into detail about this being our first year in AA competition and how we achieved a marvelous record by placing third in the state, after overcoming seemingly unsurmount able hurdles. But this has all been said- in fact I'epeated a dozen times. (If you read either of the Raleigh papers during the State Playoffs) Anything that I can say will most certainly seem trite after having read the Smithfield Herald *s editorial of March- IS. So I will simply attempt to express the sentiment of every monber of S.H.S, to you—our coaches and team of 1958, We are really proud of you. And were all in there fighting with you every second of the way, 'In future years when we look back on 195s,' it is true we will remember the Pla;p, chapels, the prom and other Activities, but above all we will year for Snithfield High School^^, and when we remember our hearts will, swell and we idJl say, "I was a Red Devil that year too." Editor t:» BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT SORRY TEACHERS In the feature story on Miss i^lora Canaday in this issue, she says that her greatest inspiration comes from her pupils. Many of her pupils say that their greatest inspiration is their teacher. Inspiration runs in a vicious circle—pupil inspires teacher to inspire pupil, and so on. W^en one party fails to inspire, inspiration is dead. V/e often explain.away a distaste for a subject or a poor grade by complaining that the teacher is un inspiring, But have we ever stopped to think that we might be the unin spiring ones? Do we behave in the classroom' all the time? Are we attentive, even when the lesson 'seems boring. Do we always prepare our lessons? We cannot inspire-our teache2?s vathout putting forth our best effort. Unless we can answer in the affirmative to the above questions, we are not putting forth o\ir best effort. We want everything handed out to us on a silver platter. It is hard for us-to put forth real work. It is all too easy to rationalize and blame.our snortcomings on poor teaching. Before w'8 condoan our teachers as uninspiring, let us make sure that we are doing our best to be an inspiring pupil. Assistant Editor BETTER SCHCX)L3 MAKE BETTER COMI-iUNITIES
