Hiddenite Center Plans Holiday Events With the holiday season upon us, the Hiddenite Center is presenting a heavenly host of holiday experi ences. On Thursday evening, Dec. 2, the Friends of the Center Open House at the Lucas Mansion officially opens the holiday season. This special open house is for Friends of the Center and others desiring to support the Center through its Friends group. From 6-8 p.m. the Lucas Mansion will be filled with the sights and sounds of the holi day season. The theme for this year’s holiday celebration will be “My Favorite Things.” The Lucas Mansion will be filled with favorite Christmas “things” and finery throughout December, and can still be enjoyed by those not able to attend the gala opening event. On Monday, Dec. 6, the holiday season moves forward with a spe cial holiday performance by the Tanradiddle , Players, who are part of the Children’s Theater of Charlotte. This professional tour ing company will wheel into Hiddenite for one show 'only. At 6:30 p.m., a kid’s friendly meal precedes the holiday presentation of Tis the Season. This holiday play whisks the audi ence through seasonal celebrations around the world. In one part of the play Tyl Eulenspiegel rescues Christmas for his town in Holland by fooling the Spanish Army. In another part, Tomten guards the farm in his native Sweden and out foxes the Fox one cold snowy night. From there travel south ward with the Sun, who keeps her promise to return in a haunting Cherokee solstice story. Then climb into the sleigh with Mrs. Claus, who thinks Christmas needs a little shaking up. There are opportunities to sing along and some big surprises at the end, including a favorite version of The Twelve Days of Christmas." Ages 3 and up will enjoy the presenta tion. Seating is limited and reservations for “Tis the Season” are required by calling 828-632-6966. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for chil dren. Holiday Concert Scheduled The Mitchell Community College Chorus, directed by Dan Pardue, will give a free performance enti tled “A Holiday Concert” Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Shearer Hall. Dan Pardue, director of the com munity choir, said the group will perform an arrangement of patriot ic tunes including a special rendi tion of Precious Lord Take My Hand that was prepared specifical ly in honor of the late civil rights leader. “There will be something for everyone in this performance,” Pardue said. “We will perform a more traditional style while the Inspirational Chorus will have a heavy gospel-style performance.” The performance is open to the public.
