CI, NO. 7 ONE DOLLAR A YEAR Oxford, North Carolina, July, 1976 4 The ^ NORTH CAROLINA MASON Hiram 40, Riverside 606 Among the June Meetings Opening the 1976 schedule of district meet ings, Grand Master Leslie H. Garner and Grand Secretary Robert P. Dudley went into 13 North Carolina Districts during June. They will visit 13 more in July, 9 in August, 16 in September, and complete the schedule with 14 October visits (the remaining sche dule appears at the end of this article). This issue of the paper contains pictorial coverage of two June meetings, in districts the paper had not previously covered: the 24th District in Hiram Lodge 40 at Raleigh on June 11, and the 53rd District in Riverside Lodge 606 at Catawba on June 17. There was good attendance at each of these meetings. This year’s format is not greatly changed from those followed in previous years. The host lodge serves dinner at 6:30 and opens Catawba—Shown above at the meeting of the Charles C. The host Master officially receives the District Deputy, who in turn receives the Grand Master, who presides. The Grand Se- retary calls the roll, then reports are made by the Masters and the district officers. The Grand Secretary enumerates “Bicentennial items” available to the lodges, explains pro posed amendments to THE CODE, and offers remarks of general interest to the members. Reports from the Orphanage and Home are also on the agenda. The Grand Master’s ad dress closes the program. Grand Master Garner’s emphasis this year is on “Unity.” (He delivers a forceful address and we do not detail it here lest we spoil it for those yet to hear him.) Grand Master is Honored Greenville Lodges Hosts Greenville—The three local lodges, Green ville 284, Crown Point 708, and William Pitt 734 honored Grand Master Leslie H. Garner at a banquet in the Masonic Temple here June 12. Masons and guests from many areas of North Carolina filled the banquet room. Grand Chaplain James H. Bailey was mas ter of ceremonies and gave the address of wel come. Later in the program he expressed ap preciation to many who had contributed to the success of the occasion. The invocation was given by Assistant Grand Chaplain Robert G. Hufford. Following dinner a program of musical se lections was presented by the Overton Sisters, Dolly Mitchum and Millie Tripp. These young ladies had the guests toe-tapping throughout the performance and the audience was invited to join in singing some of the songs. Past Grand Master William A. Hooks, who appointed Les Garner to the Grand Lodge line, was recognized and he expressed his pleasure in the work the Grand Master is do ing for North Carolina Masonry. Past Master Durwood Harris, long a close (Continued on Page Three) Because of a severe space shortage this month we are forced to delay until our August issue the account of the Masonic Trail visit to Windsor on June 26, the ac count of the Institution of Federal Point Lodge at Carolina Beach on June 28, and other shorter items. Articles appearing this month have been reduced in order to get them in. With a heavy schedule of acti vities pending, it will probably be Sep tember or October before we are again current.
