CVI-NO. 3 This Is Our New Grand Master Nelson Bryan Banks was born on April 17, 1917, in New Bern, North Carolina, son of Ottis M. and Ella N. Banks, now deceased. His formative years were spent in New Bern where he attended the public schools, after which he completed special courses in Dairying and Ice Cream Manufacturing at Penn State College in Pennsylvania and North Carolina State University, Raleigh. In 1940 he was employed by Maola Milk and Ice Cream Company of Washington, North Carolina, as Production Manager and later was promoted to Vice President and Manager, which position he retained until he resigned to accept the position of Recorder of Sudan Temple. During World War II, he served in the United States Army as a Sergeant in the 32nd. Red Arrow Infantry Division, stationed in the Philippines and after the surrender of the Japanese Forces, remained in the Pacific on occupational duty in Japan. Married to the former Evelyn Lucille Moore of Chocowinity, North Carolina, on June 1, 1946, (Continued on Page Two) Grand Lodge 1981 Raleigh—The 194th annual communication of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina was held at the Royal Villa Convention Center on April 21 and 22, with some 1800 Masons attending all or part of the sessions. General Chairman William A. Langley called the Grand Lodge to order and the colors were presented. The Grand Lodge officers entered the lodge room and filled their chairs. Grand Master E. Stansil Aldridge opened the Grand Lodge in ample form, then formally received distinguished guests and the Past Grand Masters. Morning and afternoon sessions were held on Tuesday and a final session was held Wednesday morning. (Continued on Page Two) No St. John's Day at Orphanage This Year Oxford—Due to recent personnel changes at Oxford Orphanage, there has been no opportunity for continuous planning necessary to a successful celebration of St. John's Day. There will NOT be a celebration of St. John's Day on the Orphanage campus this year.
