Enterel as second class matter January 1, 1926, at the Post Office at Fairfield, N. C., under the act cf March 3, 1879. Subscription price for the year 1927 is 50 cents. Notice is hereby given that all subscriptions for The Hyde County Messenger will expire with the December issue of 1926. The editor is ex tending the following proposition to anyone de siring to become a new subscriber to this paper of paying 50 cents and securing the paper for 14 months instead of 12 months. In other words, a new subscriber has an opportunity of taking the paper next year and the November and De cember issues will be sent free by subscribing; for next year now. For this year there was placed a subscription price covering the postage. Next year (1927) the subscription price will be 50 cents for the year or any part thereof. Reader, you will understand I am only a pastor in your midst and only have a paper to offer for each physical year or any part thereof. With tne December issue there will be mailed a subscrip tion envelope. Anyone and all who desire to renew their subscriptions will either send their renewal to me or give it to one of the associated editors. The reason for raising the subscription price is that the cost»is greater. The cost in creases with the increased number of copies pub lished. The subscribers have grown from 350 in January to 600 at this time. Write your name and address plain. Anyone desiring to send the paper as a Christmas gift to a friend may do so ^lirattksgt&tng | dra^tube is itje fairest blossom iff at springs 8 from tfje soul; anfr life Ijeart of man fenofo- A etfj none more fragranL (? by sending in your subscription for them, along with the name and address of party to whom paper is to be sent.—Editor. “VOTV AND PRAY UNTO THE LORD THY GOD.” A great many people do not feel like pledg ing anything in advance when it comes to church duties, yet those same people will ask their groceryman to run them for a year, pledging to pay them at the close of the year, and if needs be, give a mortgage or a promissory note on their land, or if a tenant, upon his crop not yet grown. We vow and pay others. Why can we not do likewise to God? Jacob did when he said, “Lord of all that thou shalt give me, I will surely give unto thee one-tenth (tithe).” Paul says in II Cor. 8:10, “and herein I give my ad vice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be for ward a year ago.” That is they had pledged a year ago, purposed in their hearts a year ago, got the consent of their own mind and will and purposed something definitely. Note verse 12, “For if there be first a willing mind, it is ac cepted according to that a man hath and not ac cording to that he hath not.” When a pledge is made in good faith it should be redeemed. Verse 11 Paul says, “Now there fore perform the doing of it; as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.” “Give and it shall be given unto you,” said Jesus. “As a man purposeth in his heart so let him give, not sparingly, nor grudgingly, neither of necessity, but freely ye have received freely given.” Regularity is one of the secrets of the king dom’s work. Paul in I Cor. 16:1, 2, gives a program whereby you and I may best of all ful fill our vows or pledges. “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye upon (Concluded* on Page 11.)
