The next Scuppernong Union meeting will fee held at the Swan Quarter Baptist Church July 30th and 31st -o REV. JOSIAH ELLIOTT All who know Brother Josiah Elliottllove him. He was born one and one-half miles from Hertford, N. C. He is now almost 80 years old. He is one of our faithful pioneer preachers. He is young in spirit. He has lived at Hertford now 51 vears. He entered the ministry at the age of Hl6 years. • : - .» . He tells me he has mortgaged his home five' times to help build parsonages and church build ings. There was a $600.00 mortgage when Rose Bay Church was built. He had led 10 young mbn to Christ who heard the call of God to preach. Hence he claims to be the father of 10 ministers. __ s Also he tells that an old colored brother heard him pre eh and was converted. And one night while he preached the old colored brother ciawled up under the church just underneath where Brother Elliott was standing preaching and there gave his heart to Christ and became a preacher among his race. He is dead how says Brother Elliott. Among the white boys are such men as: Charles Graves, J. T. Riddick, T. G. Keaton, Billie Hollo well, Henry Lamb, John Copeland and others. Brother Elliott started out in life a laboring man. For six years after he moved to Hertford he was drayman. While here he was janitor of the church and he says later they called me to be their pastor. He has held several country pastorates. He is a man who believes in God, has faith* in Jesusvand a man who spends much time in prayer. God is leaving him here for a purpose. He is a help to every young preacher. He advises us, prays for us and strengthens us by his noble life. :Mrs. Elliott was an invalid for nearly 12 years, but Brother Elliott says she witnessed for Christ to those who came in to see her. He con tributes his life’s ministry largely to her help. ■TV ‘Try to train up,” not, “Do you best to train up,” not, “Leave them to &o in their own way,” or the way of others; But “Train up a child in the way he should go.” The Oak Grove Scuppernong Union meeting was attended by Misses Eura Mae Daniels, Elsie Jenkins and E. R. Stewart. This was one of the best meetings ever held at Oak Grove Church. Attendance was good. The union meeting fond and the morning collection was given to help complete the Oak Grove Baptist Church. The offerings amounted to $38.42 and this amount less expenses will go as above stated. The next union meeting will be held at Swan Quarter on July 30th and 31st. I|§jjf ■ IHH , B. Y. P. U. State Convi The Baptist State B. Y. P.
