NANCY DAVIS Band Queen Nancy Joyce Davis was crowned Band Queen Saturday night, December 5 at the Wake Forest Band Variety Show. She was chosen by members of the band. Nancy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Davis of 637 North Main St. Rolesville News Mrs. Bertie Robertson left Sun day for Hagerstown, Md. to be witn her daughter Mrs. Henry Whitaker who is a patient in the Hospital there. High scorers for Wake Forest were Wayne Ray 14, Guy Ray 12, and John Byrne, 10. The game for Monday night was cancelled and will be re-scheduled in January. j The next home game will be January 14 with Apex. | Funeral Services Held Sunday for W. Ivon Upchurch W. Ivon Upchurch, 89 of Rt. 5, Raleigh died Sunday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Barden, Rt. 5, Raleigh. He was a life long resident of Wake Coun ty, a retired farmer, a member of Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church. Surviving are 3 daughters Mrs. J. V. Clifton, Mrs. George Barden and Mrs. Joe Montague all of Rt. 5, Raleigh; 4 sons, Truby and Bill IJpchurch both of Rt. 5, Ra leigh, A. A. (Sam) Upchurch, Bradenton, Fla. and Charles E. Upchurch of Greenville, S. C.; 1 sister Miss Nannie E. Upchurch, Rt. 5, Raleigh, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at 11 O’clock from Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church with the pastor. Rev. Odell Pulley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were, Law rence Watkins, Donnie Watkins, McCoy Cooke, Roy Poole, Beck Jones, Maynard Jones, Charlie Blackley and Garland Medlin. The Wake Weekly, Wake Forest, N. Kindergarten Party Children of the Wiggins Kinder garten enjoyed their Christmas party and the exchanging of gifts Tuesday before getting out for the holidays. The children have been learning Christmas poems and songs. Mrs. Dean Denmark, kinder garten teacher, has announced that they will return January 4. Corpening Sunday af ternoon. The Potts family wUl be moving to Raleigh in late December and he wUl become pastor of the Cara- leigh Baptist Church. Upon arrival, guests were greet ed by Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Hall and introduced to the receiving line consisting of Dr. and Mrs. Corpen ing, Mrs. J. T. Allen, Rev. and Mrs. Potts and daughters, Mar garet, Maureen and Vida Gayle. hmtmasv Guests were then directed into the living room by Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Reddick and Mr. and Mrs.' A1 DePorter. Also assisting in the living room were Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Cheatham and Mr. and Mrs. J.! T. Moss. I Directing guests into the dining, room were Mr. and Mrs. Mack, Dement and Mr. and Mrs. L. A. ] Woodlief. Also assisting in the dining room were Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Lindsey and Mr. and Mrs. William H. Fleming. Mrs. OUie Roberts and Mrs. W. T. Holden presided over the guest register. Assisting elsewhere in the home were Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Patter son, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Felton, Mrs. L. R. Evans and Mrs. J. A. Green. i j Refreshments of assorted cook ies, cheese cuts, assorted party sandwiches, nuts and holiday fruit punch were served the approxi mately one hundred and ten guests attending. Mrs. L. R. Evans and Mrs. W. F. Mitchell poured punch. The home was beautifully dec orated with lovely Christmas ar rangements. In the receiving hall was a gaily decorated Christmas tree with additional arrangements entwined on the staircase. The serving table in the dining room was covered with a sheer silver Holiday cloth on which was a love-1 ly centerpiece crystal fountain | overflowing onto a choir of pearl | angels. On the mantle was a love- j ly white arrangement of the man- i '^er scene laid on black velvet. An auxiliary table was graced with a "ovely candelabra and an open ' Bible over which was a large light-, "d snowflake. The Wake Forest Jaycees wiU play the All American Red Heads at Wake Forest High School Gym on New Year’s Eve at 8 P. M. The following Jaycees will play against the famous girls team: Gene Bak er, Cecil Leonard, John Ezzelle, Erwin Dalzell, Richard Branch, Delmas Hudson, Esley Forbes, and Jerry Warren. The following Guest Stars who played for Wake Forest College have been invited to play with the Jaycees: A1 DePorter, Twig Wig gins, Jerry Mitchell, Lefty Davis, Jackie Murdock and Tommy Byrne, Jr. The half time feature will be pre sented by the Red Heads. Miss San dra Kay Hendricks, to Robert Blaine Tomb, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Tomb of Memphis, Term. Miss Hendricks and Mr. Tomb are both in the Navy stationed in Charleston, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Winston and family of Detroit, Michigan are here to visit with his mother, Mrs. Lizzie Winston and her par ents in Bailey. Mr. Claude Allen is a patient at Rex Hospital where he under went surgery last week. Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Goswick in Hillsboro Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Holden, Mrs. W. T. Holden and son Wade. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Holden and daughters Wendy and Cray of Ra leigh visited the E. J. Pearce fam ily and Mrs. C. F. Talley Sunday. Mrs. Upshur Parks 'of Parksley, Va. visited Mrs. C. V. Timberlake over the week end. John Russell Cyrus who is sta tioned with the Army forces at Fort Bragg, was at home for the week end.
