and will have the exclusive right to
distribute all of the tobacco industry

GROUP YEAR IS IN
TOP SAFETY FORM
The Ecusta Paper and Film Group
had a superior record of safety ac
complishments in 1977, clear proof
that there is an attitude toward safety
throughout the Group that was not
known four years ago, Fletcher
Roberts reported in early January.
Group director of safety and loss
prevention, he said that there were
reductions in every category of safety
accountability. There was a 37 per
cent reduction in first aid cases over
the previous year, and in the severity
rating this Group was No. 1 in Olin.
There was a 33 per cent improve
ment over the Safety Performance
Index Goal. The OSHA goal of 2.0
was bettered by 20 per cent. A 50 per
Perl Van Sant, solvent recovery oper
ator at the Olin Works cellophane
plant, began collecting armor when
in his ’teens, and before World War II
had amassed a splendid assortment
of armor and weaponry from throug
out the world. It is subject of a major
exhibition opening early this year in
the Asheville Art Museum, made pos
sible through grants from the Olin
Corporation Charitable Trust, the
North Carolina Arts Council, and
friends of the museum. Van Sant
holds the Nuremburg armor believed
to be of the period 1490-1510. The
story of how he acquired the trea
sures and many photographs are on
inside pages.
