Largely to the Profes sional Market. New York, May 31. Operations of pools, and cliques in special stocks con tributed very largely to today's ob viously professional market. Except for Lehigh Valley and Reading, which were active and strong at times, the railway list was quiet. Norfolk alttd Western, however, rose to the new high price of 125 3-8, allowing for the re duction of its regular and extra dlvi dens of 2 3-4 per cent. Other stand ard stocks were obsoured by the prom inence of Motors, Rubber, minor steel and iron issues. Mercantile Marine pre ferred and some of the munitions. New maximums were registered by" Chandler Motors, which rose 3 1-2 to 108 1-2, and Lee which rose 1 3-4 to 54 1-4. Mexi cans, particularly oils, were disposed to advance at. the outset, but lost con siderable ground later on publication of the tenor of the Carransa note. Interna tional Harvester issues were strong and copper and Zinc shares were under re duced pressure. The hollow character of the day's trading was evidenced by the ease with which prices shaded . in the final hour: Reading leading the decline and chang ing various early gains to moderate net losses. Total sales 355,000 shares. Bonds were firm, Canadian 5s making a new high quotation at 101 6-8. To tal sales par value $4,185,000.
