STATE WILL OPEN EXERCISES FRIDAY RALEIGH, May 2 —UP)— N. C. State college will hold its war affected graduation exercises here next Friday and Saturday—a full month earlier than in normal years. In the senior class are 336 can didates for degrees, 29 of which are to receive advanced degrees. The exercises were advanced a month because of the war-inspired need for technically trained stu dents. A month after the last sheepskin is awarded the school will go on a quarter basis under which a student may get a de gree in three years. The military theme will be evi dent throughout the ceremonies. More than 100 of the men gradu ates will receive commissions in the officers reserve corps and will; go on immediate active duty, j Scores of others have indicated they will enter the naval reserve j for shore construction work. -V Classes In Religious Study To Begin Monday In connection with a city wide training union program, the Bap tist Training union of Temple Bap tist church will start a study course Monday night at 7:30 o’clock. The program will consist of two classes and a recreation period. The first portion of the meeting will extend from 7:30 o’clock until 8:15 o’clock. A fifteen minute rest period will break the two classes and the final session will start at 8:30 o’clock running until 9:15 o’clock. There will be classes for all age groups. The adults will study from the book, “The Fine Art of Soul Winning,” taught by the Rev. James Butler. The young people will be led by the pastor of the church, the Rev. J. Roy Clifford, in study from “Fields of Service in the Church.” Mrs. J. R. Clif ford will teach the intermediate group in “Witnessing for Christ” and the Junior union will be in structed by J. O. Greene from the book “Living for Christ.” Members of the various unions are urged to attend these classes and the public is cordially invited to attend. Per kins Reeves, 42, resident of the Cas cade Lake section of Buck Forest, has been arrested by state forest of ficials on charges of setting a fire in Buck Forest on April 6. Reeves was arraigned in magistrate’s court and bound over to superior court under $300 bond. Bush To Speak Before Local Court Of Honor One of the largest Boy Scout Courts of Honor to be held in Wil mington will convene Monday night in the Superior Courtroom at 8 o’clock. This is the regular meet ing of the Court of Honor for the Wilmington District and will be featured by the appearance of Gil bert Bush, of Atlanta, on the pro gram, and the award of the Eagle Badge to Liston Mills, of Troop 14. Mr. Bush is Deputy Regional Ex ecutive, Boy Scouts of America, and will talk on “Scouts in War Work.’.’ He will bring with him a sound film in color of the “Scout Trail to Citizenship,” which has been reeived with much interest throughout the country. Following the Court of Honor all scouts present will be given an opportunity to sign up in either the Junior or Senior Division of the Civilian Defense Messenger Corps of the county. Final plans for the District Camporee to be held Friday and Saturday at Greenfield Lake will also be disclosed at that time. 2 Italy Plans To Force Investment Of Excess Profits In New Bonds BERN, Switzerland, May 2.—iff) —Premier Mussolini, back from Salzburg where he met Hitler in a conference which II Duce term ed a "vast exchange of views on military and political problems,” ordered his council of ministers in Rome today to approve a decree compelling the investment of ex cess profits in special treasury bonds. The council approved other de crees increasing pensions of sur vivors of war dead 40 to 50 per cent. FOX CAPTURED A tame fox, captured in the ball park at Ninth and Orange streets Friday afternoon, is now held at Williston High school awaiting the owner. Pro fessor Rogers of the school an nounced that the animal would be given to the biology labora tory of the school if it was not claimed. INSTALLATION SERVICE The Woman’s Missionary Un ion of the Carolina Beach Bap tist church will hold an instal lation service, conducted by Mrs. D. W. Merritt, in the community church at the beach at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon. All members of the church are requested to be present. TALKING THIEF VV. T. Atkinson reported to police Friday afternoon that someone entered his home at 1912 Church street, stole a suit, a sport coat and a pair of pants, and then proceeded to run up a $9 long distance toll bill on his telephone. DOG CLINICS Dog clinics will continue to be conducted at Needham’s Kennels, in Winter Park, Mon day through Thursday nights of this week, it was announced yesterday gy J. N. SUGAR REGISTRATION WILL START MONDAY (Continued From Page One) the schools, said Saturday. One incidental effect of the reg istration will tto provide an ac curate index to the population of the county> variously estimated to have been increased by from 35, 000 to 40,000 persons since the 1940 census.
