FOUL PLAY HINTED IN THORNTON CASE Sampson Man’s Widow, An Unnamed Man Taken Into Custody CLINTON, May 13—Mrs. Leon Thornton, Autryville, Route One is in Sampson county jail and an un named man is being held in Fayet teville for questioning by State Bureau of Investigation officers following the death Sunday in a Fayetteville hospital of Mrs. Thornton’s husband who was run over and mortally injured by a car driven by Johnnie R. Tyndall and Early Tyndall, who were re turning to their homes with Horne, verified that statement, officers said. Thornton died at 7 o’clock Sunday morning from effects of a crushed chest and other wounds about the head and body. Thornton was buried Tuesday morning, the services being con ducted at Clement Baptist church. Mrs. Thornton attended the rites in custody of Patrolman Mitchell.
