Reasonably Priced Terms If Desired -SEE FOSTER-HILL REALTY CO. "We Sell The Earth" . 112 Princess Street Dial 3371 New Hanover Farmers Urged To Cooperate In Drive For Scrap Metal New Hanover farmers were urged to cooperate with the WPA project designed to move scrap metal from farms into war industries in letters from Donald M. Nelson, WPB head declaring "badly needed scrap metal and rubber still remain on many farms and it is valueless to the war effort there " “Final victory depends upon how fast we can give our fighting jrmn the weapons and machines to do the job. We need every pound ot scrap from every farm and we need it now,” wrote Mr. Nelson. Alex Sprunt, chairman of the county salvage committee, has re quested James B. Vogler, execu tive secretary of the state Salvage for Victory Committee, to have WPA set up a unit of its state wide project to locate, collect, and haul scrap metal and rubber for the War Production Board. The mailing of the letters mark ed the beginning of a state-wide drive by WPA workers to glean the thousands of tons of rural scrap metal and rubber now vital in war production. Each letter contains a post card addressed to the Works Projects Administration. Chairman Sprunt urged all farmers to immediately fill in their cards and mail them. Under the plan a farmer can either donate or sell his scrap to the government. If it is sold, the government will pay thirty cents per cwt. for scrap iron and steel and one-half cent per pound for scrap rubber. The government will then sell the scrap on bid to deal ers who must prepare it and ship it to war factories and mills within sixty days. Dealer prices will be in line with the government’s scrap price ceilings. If the scrap is donated, the money from its sale goes to the United States Gov ernment to aid in the war. “WPA cooperation solves a ma jor problem in our salvage pro gram,” said Vogler. “Transporta tion of scrap from farms to col lection centers has been a real problem. With gasoline rationing the problem lias become acute. WPA will not only collect and haul the scrap, but they will provide working crews to dismantle ma terial when it is necessary to do so in order that it might be haul ed.” Claude L. McGhee, of Franklin ton, has been apppointed the WPA supervisor for the project to col lect agricultural scrap by State WPA Administrator McGinnis. Mc Ghee pointed out that many farm ers fail to realize the need for rubber no matter how small the quantity. He urged farmers not to overlook all possible bits of rubber. -V Easy Post-War Treatment Of Germans Is Advocated LONDON, May 21.— <T> —The Duke of Bedford, outspoken pacif ist and advocate of a negotiated peace with Germany, told the House of Lords today the war was “dis astrous and unnecessary ’ and ur ged easy post-war treatment of the Germans. . Viscount Cranborne, speaking for the government, retorted that Ger many would be treated economical ly like any other nation “if she be haves decently” but that after the "murder and rapine” perpetrated by the Nazis a negotiated peace would- -be • "an unpardonable be trayal of our country and the world in general.” -V-: There are 25,000.000 insects in the air above each square m 1 le of the earth’s surface, according to estimates.
