C. Shritron said today Ferdinand J. Sygler, 43, had admitted slaying his 17-year old son, John, because the boy’s discharge from the Merchant Ma rine had placed “a black mark on the family name.” The detective said the father had signed a statement in which he admitted shooting the boy yes terday with a rifle. Sygler is be ing held without charge pending completion of an investigation. He was arrested last night by Police Sgt. C. F. Hazinski, who said Sygler was in a hysterical condition. ACL STOCK HITS NEW YEARLY PEAK NEW YORK, March 15.— W) — Wide gains were achieved by rail and industrial specialties in to day’s stock market although deal ing were among the slowest for the past several months and most leaders did little or nothing. The Associated Press 60-stock average was up .5 of a point at 61.7. Transfers totalled 800,000 shares compared with 750,000 the day before. Of 864 issues register ing, 430 were up against 434 down or unchanged. Atlantic Coast Line held to its stellar role, climbing 7 1-4 to a new 1944 peak in further reflec tiion of the split-up program of its subsidiary, Louisville and Nash ville. It was up 4 3-4 Wednesday. L. and N. advanced 6 3-4, also to aa new year’s top. In the “new high” class were Eastern Air Lines, which tacked on 6 points; Cudahy and International Tele phone. Turn over here was 250,000 shares ver sus 230,000 yesterday. HOS ^AL SEEKS RARY BOOKS George R. Darden, superintend ent of James Walker Memorial hospital, yesterday issued an ap peal to citizens of Wilmington for donations of books for a rolling li brary planned by the hospital. Mr. Darden revealed that a li brary truck has been ordered and is expected in the next few weeks. The truck, which wiU be in charge of a hospital hostess, will make bedside selection of reading mat ter possible for ward and private patients. Few books have so far been re ceived in answer to an earlier ap peal. Fiction is' particularly de sired, although all types of books in good condition are wanted, he said. President Niles Trammell said the policy is to apply to all news broadcasts originated by NBC and its owned and operated stations. He added that it was “in line with a policy already in force, un der which NBC sponsors cooperate with the company in eliminating middle commercials, or, upon oc casions, commercials of any kind, from news broadcasts during events of supreme interest.” -V N.
