The citation accompanying the award continues: “The force leadership and couraged displayed by Capt. Pittman reflects the high est credit upon himself and the Army Air Forces.” The airman has flown wail over twenty combat missions and has also been awarded the Air Medal. Ralph C Volk, 23, son of Mrs. Edna C. Volk", 102 Columbia Ave., has returned to the States after sev en missions over enemy territory and is now at Eagle Pass Army Air Field, Texas. Pilot of a Libera tor bomber on a raid on the Ro manian oil fields, he ordered his crew to bail out and followed them when the plane was hopelessly crippled by enemy action. Lt. Volk landed in enemy territory but es caped to friendly lines. WINS BRONZE STAR Pfc. Herbert C. Davis, serving with "an Infantry division of the Seventh Army somewhere in France, was recently awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achieve ment in combat, it has been of ficially announced. Pfc. Davis re sides at 4Q6 Wrightsville Ave. PROMOTED Bruce J. Cartier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Cartier, of Wilming ton, serving with the U. S. Owensby, Jr., a member of a Cavalry unit in the rhiird Army, died of wounds re ceived in action in Luxembourg >n March 3, according to notifi :ation received by his family from he War Department recently. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. 2. C. Owensby, of 20 1-2 N. Sev enth St. Pfc.
