RAILS COME BACK AFTER SLOW DAY NEW YORK, April 10.—MB—After dawdling through the greater part of a colorless session, rail, motor and steel stocks rallied in today’s market and, at the best, recover ies ran to 3 or more points. Transfers of 760,000 shares com pared with 570,000 Monday. The Associated Press 60-stock composite was up .4 of a point at 61. of 886 issues registering, 500 were up against 386 down or un changed. Secondary rail bonds followed stocks. Cotton was 60 to 85 cents a bale higher. In the Curb, modest plus marks were attached to American Gas, Cities Service, Pantepec. North American Light and Electric Bond and Share. Turnover here was 190,000 shares versus 210,000 yes terday. BRITISHCAPTURE THAZI IN BURMA Calcutta, April 10 —— British 14th Army troops mopping up Jap anese remnants in central Burma have captured Thazi, an important road junction town 14 miles east of Meiktila, a southeast command communique said today. Armored units which pushed south of Thazi ran into several Jap anese light tanks and knocked out one of them. In other operations in the Meiktila area, British and Indian troops wiped out a number of enemy gun positions and inflict ed heavy casualties on the disor ganized enemy. Rocket-firing RAF Beaufighters attacked Japanese bunkers in the Thazi area in close support of the advancing ground troops. The communique said that an enemy pocket of resistance in the Legyi area, 24 miles south-south east of the Pakokku bridgehead across t.ne Irrawaddy had been cleared.
