April 26.——In vestment demand, while timid, was sufficient to take the sting out of further profit taking in to day’s stock market and, while losers held the majority at the close, plus marks were fairly well distributed. Transfers amounted to 1,370,000 shares compared with 1,420,000 Wednesday. Bethlehem Steel recovered at the last to finish with a gain of 1-8. Directors, after the close, voted the usual $1.50 dividend and re ported first quarter net of $2.03 a share against $1.61 in the like 1944 period. In the plus ranks were Schenley, Distillers Corp., General Motors and American Telephone and Dela ware Lackawanna and Western. Casualties were Santa Fe, N. Y. Slaughter lambs were steady to 25 cents higher.
