Front St. PLOT TO CAPTURE LONDON REVEALED 18TH AIRBORNE COR.PS HEADQUARTERS, Belgium, Dec 23.— (Delayed)—(IJ.R)—Two Ameri can army captains disclosed to night the fantastic details of a German plot to capture London Christmas Eve by a jailbreak of 75,000 Nazi war prisoners in Eng lan5. The prisoners were to be aided by paratroops and seaborne infan try and their breakout was to be launched with an order of the day by Adolf Hitler proclaiming: “The hour of our liberation is approach ing.” The time of the jailbreak later was changed from Christmas Eve to December 16 to coincide with Field Marshal Karl Gerd Von Rundstedt’s Ardennes offensive, which Berlin said at the time would win the war. The plot fell through when two American intelligence captains, then in England, learned of pre liminary reconnaissance by the prisoners and arrested their lead ers. Both • of the Americans, Capt. Frank M. Brandstetter, New York City, and Capt. Joseph L. Hoelzl, Louisville, Ky.j received bronze stars for their work. The plot, as Brandstetter and Hoelzl told it to me here, called for the Germans to fight their way out of Devizes prison, 100 miles west of London, and seize the pris on arsenal. With these arms they were to establish key road blocks, cut communications and storm two nearby hospitals. -V Hollis Attends Meeting Of County Welfare Heads J. R.
