FEATURES MARKEt NEW YORK, June 29.—(£)—The stock market made an effort to; regain its stability today but was I only partially successful. I Selling, relatively heavy in the i forenoon when declines running to three or more points were wide- j spread among rails, steels, motors j and pivotal industrials, dwindled, after midday and timid bidding appeared. While the ticker tape loafed, extreme losses were re duced. There was a smattering of modest plus signs at the close. ! Transfers of 2,020,000 shares com pared with yesterday’s five-year ' peak of 2,940,000. Customers were a bit more courageous on the idea liquida tion may have been overdone in the preceding session. Bears s'ill were plentiful, however, as the belief persisted that Washington was preparing to crack down on speculation. Earnings, dividends, recapitalizations and split-ups per sisted as props. The Associated Press 60-stock average was off .6 of a point at 66 and had wiped out virtually all of its advance of the preced ing two weeks. Of 966 issues reg istering, 624 were down, 170 up and 172 unchanged. Broad sprinted was American distilling which, in the morning, added 4 1-8 points to its five point jump of the day before, | backed into a two-point loss at the beginning of the final period on large blocks, and ended with a net gain of a point on the day. Deal ings were suspended at intervals in this s ock because there were no offerings. There was little ac tual news to account for the gy rations of this issue. It was report ed, though, that negotiations had been under way for the sale of one of the concern’s properties at a profitable figure. On the losing end were U. S. Steel, Bethlehem, Chrysler, Gen eral Motors, Sears Roebuck, Mont gomery Ward, Douglas Aircraft, Du Pont, Standard Oil (N.J.), At lantic Coast Line, Union Pacific, Anaconda and U. S. Rubber. Plus marks were rationed by Hudson motors, Santa Fe, Southern Paci fic, Canadian Pacific, Woolworth, Pan American Airways, Pennsyl vania-Central Airlines, Electric Power and Light, Schenley and National Distillers. Railway bonds recreated. At Chi cago wheat was up 1-2 to 1 1-2 cents a bushel. Cotton was 30 cents a bale higher to as much lower. Improved in a spotty curb were northeast airlines and pioneer gold. Small recessions were posted for Creole Petroleum and Elliott Co. Turnover here was 510.000 shares versus 780,000 Thursday. -V WMC-USES Moving Plans Have Been Delayed Week Originally scheduled for yester day, the movement of War Man power Commission-U. S. Employ ment Service offices into the re modeled City Laundry building has been postponed until Friday and Saturday of next week. The move was necessarily post poned because of the incompletion of the building through the failure of supplies to arrive. The personnel of the offices in the Southern building and at 511 Red Cross street will move into the new quarters on Friday <,} next week.' and the office at 111 Grace street will be moved next Saturday.
