Ms, UTILITIES REGISTER GAINS NEW YORK, Oct. 2.—(iP)—Select ed rails and utilities gained ground in the bond market today surviv ing a late flurry of activity which wiped out a number of advances and left some early gainers at low er levels. t Industrials finished with only fractional chances. Sales of 5,790, 500 compared with Monday’s $5, 490,000. St. Paul adjustment 5s aftei touching 2814 skidded to close at 27, off a point, but the 5s of 1975 gained V2 to close at 82V4. International Great Northern ad justment 6s dropped IV2 points tc J 121/2 while the first 6s were up fractionally. Burlington general 4s, Hosing at 111, were off V2 point. Southern Railway consolidated 5s gained a point, while fractional ad vances were held by Rio Grande Western 5s of 1978, Illinois'Central l%s, and several Southern Pacific lions. Most of the Missouri Pacific cans ended lower. Cainers of fractions among the utilities included International Hydro Electric 5s, Broklyn Union Has, International Telephone 4y2s, Western Union 5s of 1951, and Illinois Bell Telephone 2%s. Foreign dollar bond dealings were narrow and inconclusive. U. 5. governments were quiet with slight. gains scored by the 214s Df 62-59 and the 2V2S of 72-67. Final prices were 10 to 55 cents a bale lower. Traders attributed the decline mostly to technical reasons, al though a trade survey of foreign markets disclosed indications do not point to very large shipments Df cotton to Europe, which was less optimistic than ideas in most quarters. There was further liquidation in October following issuances of nine additional transferable notices.
