[Many Thalian Favorites Are Cast In New Show To Be Staged Here Soon • uougngiris , me spars n n g Ihree-act comedy now in rehearsal by the Thalian assoc ation is filled with laughter and fun. The humor ous, sophisticated lives and may ridiculous situations which take place in an overcrowded hotel suite in Washington promise to give the audience a very gay and entertain Iing evening. This play, under the direction of -Lester Preston, will mark the Association's second major production of the season. ., The play was written by Joseph F elds and was most successfully produced by Max Gordon on Broad way. The Thalian cast is excellent and well suited to their roles. Some of those taking important feminine roles are Mary Cameron (Mrs. Bruce. Jr.) one of Wilmington’s chan newcomers, as Viv'an in the port done by Arlene Whelan in New York. , Th- role of Edna is being done Dy Margaret Darst Smith who is well known for her splendid work by most Thalian-goers. Nan. another glamour girl, is Marion Fr nk, a popular young Dionae newspaper woman in Wil mington, who hails from Southport. Mrs. Emsley Laney, Kay, will appear as Natalia Chodorov, a Russian girl who takes up her abode along with the many others, and adds some very amusing in c dents—Kay will be remembered for her good work as a nun -in “Cradle Song’’ and as Katherine ir “Pennywise.” Katherine Meier will take the part of Sylvia, the stunning est ranged wife of Julian Cadman, an ambitious young chemist. Her ap pearance on the scene creates quite an upset in the plans of the other girls and finally captures the head of a big business concern. Elizabeth Williams does the part of Judge Honors Blake, a minor part but very amusing. El zabeth is a most popular member of the Thalians and always does a splen did job. Tentatives dates for the produc tion are set for February 21-22. Slightly Off The Record Wilmington,'N. C., Jan. 7, 1946. Peggy, my dear: The most delightful innovation was started last evening by the Cape Fear Country club, when they entertained from 9 until 1 o’clock, at a dance for the members and their out-of-town guests, with ^ a plendid orchestra furnishing the nusic. Prior to the dance, the din ing room was open for dinner at 7:30 o’clock, and there were many gay parties, both large and small, killing two birds with one stone by honoring guests at dinner before joining the dancers in the spacious club ballroom. The members were most complimentary in their ex pressions of appreciation to K. L. White, chairman of the entertain ment committee, for his capable planning of the evening’s entertain ment. There were more than a hundred dinner guests present, with a-similar number coming in later, and it was the general consensus of opinion that a repetition of last night’s affair, once a month until spring, would be welcomed by the membership.
