I W r*-j V _■ TRUMAN TO TAKE FLORIDA VACATION WASHINGTON, Jan. 26. ■-•W.B— President Truman leaves Washing ton two weeks from Monday for a winter vacation in Florida waters, and it was expected he might see former British Prime Minister Win ston Churchill, now wintering in Miami Beach. The White House announced to day that Mr. Truman will fly to Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 11. On ar rival, he wiU motor to Winter Park, Fla., where he will receive the hon orary degree of Doctor of Humani ties from Rollins college. After this ceremony, Mr. Truman will return to Orlando by car, fly to Miami and, that same evening, board the presidential yacht Wil liamsburg for a cruise in Florida waters. On March 5 Mr. Truman is sche duled to introduce Churchill for a speech at Westminster coUege at Fulton, Mo. The British war leader wiU receive an honorary degree at the Missouri ceremony. Today’s announcement of the president’s vacation plans brought immediate speculation that he might invite Churchill to visit him aboard the Williamsburg and that the two men might fly back to Washington together in time to leave for the Missouri trip. There was no announcement of the length of Mr. Truman’s Florida vacation except a statement by White House Secretary Charles G. Ross that it would be brief. It was believed that Mr. Truman might invite Churchill aboard the Williamsburg for some fishing off the Florida coast. “NO COMMENT’’ MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Jan. 26.— (U.PJ—Former British Prime Minis ter Winston Churchill had a terse “no comment” when informed to day that President Truman will ar rive in Miami Feb. 11 and start a cruise aboard the presidential yacht. Announcement of Mr. Truman’s plans in Washington today led to speculation that Churchill might ac company the president on the cruise. Churchill, vacationing here for six weeks will leave Friday by private plane for Havana, where he will be a week. He wiU visit Cuban President Ramon Grau San Martin at the presidential palace in Hav ana. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Churchill and his host, Col. Frank Clarke. appointed CHAPEL HILL, Jan. 26.—W— Dean M. T. Van Hecke of the Uni versity of North Carolina law school, a former director of the fourth regional war labor board, was appointed to the state arbitra tion panel today by labor commis sioner Forrest H. Shuford, admini strator of North Carolina’s volun tary arbitration act.
