Holland-Smifh Vows Solemnized In a ceremony attended by inti mate friends and relatives, Doris Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Smith of this city, and Wil liam S. Holland, son of Mrs. Sarah M Holland ar.d the late W. Stan ley Holland of Wilmington, were married on Sunday afterno^>.,, Sep tember 1, at the Temple Baptist church at 4:30 o'clock. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. J. S-ephenson, pastor of tne church. Music was by the organist, James Putnam, and Miss Peggy Green of Charleston, S. C . sang “Because” and “The Lords Prayer” as a benediction. The church ~.vas decorated with palms and ferns and white gladi oli and candles. The bride, who w a s given in rr crr.sHe bv her father, wore an informal frock of French blue lame with high neck and short c-eove'. Her hat was brown felt v.'.'m blue feather, off - the-face s- e, 5y-e carried a white Bible v.:-h orchid and tuberoses, show ered with ribbons which fell to the hem of her dress. Mrs. C. E. Kavanaugh, matron- : of-honor, wore a pink short length cress with blac* seo.uins. Her Cowers were pink carnations. The bridegroom was served by hit brother. Pvt. Warren J. Hoi-1 land, as best man. The ushers j were James R. Davis and Sam Behrends, Jr. Mrs. L. D. Smith, the bride's mother, wore a blue dress wi.b black trim ar.d an orchid corsage. ; The bridegrooms mother, Mrs. Sarah M. Holland, wore teal blue ] with fuchsia accessories. Her Cowers were an orchid corsage. After graduating from the New Hanover high school the bride has been employed a* the Atlantic Coast Line radroad._ The brice groom, also a graduate of the local high school, served as a navi gator in the Army Air Corps, is attending college at tne Universi ty of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Immediately following the cere mony the couple left for a wed ding trip in '•he mountains of West ern North Carolina. The out-of-town guest were Miss Ethel Full wood. Mrs. Lou Ella Rourk, Mrs. Lou Smith, Mrs. Lanev Southerland. Mrs. C. J. Wil liamson, Miss Betty Sue William son, Mr. Charles Southerland and Mrs. Elizabeth Southerland of Southport, Julian Southerland of Norfolk. Mr. and Mrs. Z. C. Bes s'rtta of Favetleville. Miss Peggy Greene of Charleston, S. C., Miss Emily Ann Koester of Greenville, S C., and Mr. and Mrs. N. D. Buck and children of Mt. Pleas ant. S. C. The bride was entertained by the following friends prior to her wedding: Mrs. C. E. Kavanaugh, Mrs. A. L. Williams, Miss Ellen Furr, Miss Charlotte Walker, Mrs. C. D. Thompson, Mrs. J. R. Hol lis, Mrs. V. E. Phelps and her office associates at t h e Atlantic Coast Line. Climaxing the enter tainments was a reception at the American Legion home on Satur day evening given by, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Smith, parents of the bride, and Mrs. Sarah M. Holland, mother of the bridegroom. The Legion home was fully decorated for the occasion with white gladi oli and ivy. A. will meet Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the school audi torium. The executive commit tee will meet at 1:30 o’clock. The Woman’s Missionary so ciety of the Carolina Beach Baptist church will meet at the church Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The Girls auxiliary wilJ meet Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the home of Marion Leiner. TTie Temple Baptist Mothers club will meet Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock with Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. King, 108 South 17th street. The Mothers and Teachers club of St. Mary’s Catholic school will meet Tuesday aft ernoon at 3:30 o’clock at the parish hall.' The VFW auxiliary will hold the regular meeting Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock in the Tide Water assembly hall. Letitia Rebekah Lodge, No. 3, IOOF, will hold the regular meeting Thursday evening at 8 o’clock in the Odd Fellows Hall. All members are urged to attend. The W. M. U. circle No. 4 of Calvary Baptist churCh meets Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the church. Goldenrod chapter, No. 142, Order of the Eastern Star will meet Thursday evening at 8:15 o’clock in the Masonic Temple. All members are urged to attend as this is the first meeting of the fall sea son and plans will be made for the coming winter work. The Cape Fear chapter, No. 3, UDC, will hold the first meeting of the season on Tues day afternoon at 3:30 o’clock in the ladies parlor of the First Presbyterian church. Bayse of Roanoke, Va., was mar ried to John William Walker, s.on of Mr. and Mrs. Z. John Walker of Wilmington, on Tuesday eve ning, August 20 at 7 o’clock at the home of the bride. The Rev. Dewey C. Miller, pastor of the First Wesleyan Methodist church, officiated. An improvised altar was banked with ferns and baskets of white gladipli. Miss Ruth Suggs, pianist, presented a program of wedding music and Miss Betty Stewart, soloist, sang Always and I Love You Truly. The bride wore a white suit with white accessories and a corsage of red roses. A reception was held immediate ly following the ceremony at the home after which the couple left for a wedding trip. MR. Brisson of Dublin._ Helen Marie Head Of New York Weds NEW BERN, Sept. 7. — Miss Helen Marie Head of New YorK city, daughter of Mrs. William Joseph Head of New York, and Harvey Lee Barnes, Jr., of New Bern, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Barnes of New Bern, were married August 24 in New York. The couple is now residing in New Bern, where the bridegroom is secretary-treasurer of the Maola Milk and Ice Cream company of which his father is president and general manager.
