Miss Johnson ‘js graduated from the Woman’s //e of the University of North Carolina in 1914 with an A.B. de ,«e in sociology. Since July of Lat year, she nas been employed as case work assistant in the New Hanover county welfare depart ment in the city. :,liSc Johnson was active in cam pus affairs during her stu isr.t days, having been a member /the Adelphian society, the col |e»e choir, the French club, So ciology club, and the college HCA. Her w ork with the Raleigh YWCA will be supervisor of pro gram for teen-age youth, including Y - teen (formerly called Girl Re serve) clubs in the schools and the co-ed program at the Y on Friday nights and twro afternoons a week. She, with Mrs. Landon Hill, Y-Teen chairman on the board of directors, will recruit and train club advisers and program leaders, holding set ting - up conferences and special city - wide events. She will work with Mrs. Hill’s committee, which is the connecting link be tween the clubs and the homes, the parent - teacher associations and other community organiza tions. She will also assist the ad viser of the 11 Y-teen clubs of the Sojourner Truth branch of the YWCA with leaders training course and a settling up conference for club advisers to be held at Camp ! Mrs. Robert Ivey sang “I Love You Truly,” and Dominic Constantino sang “Because.” The traditional wedding marches were used. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a street - length dress of squa crepe with matching hat and snakeskin accessories, and carried a white prayerbook topped with a white orchid and showered with tuberoses. Mrs. Aubine Batts, Jr., sister-in lav/ of the bride, was her only at tendant. She wore a gold crepe dress with brown acceessorries and a corsage of Brandywine roses. Lt. Langley had as his best man, Capt. William Steiger. The ush ers were Capt. Ibry Beaty, Capt. Winiford A. Gaines, Aubine Batts, Jr., and Jack Batts. Mrs. Batts, mother of the bride, wore a black dress trimmed with aqua, black accessories, and a cor sage of white roses. After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ivey, close friends of the bride. The home was beautiful ly decorated with baskets of white gladioli and bowls of mixed flow ers. The dining room table was laid with a lace cloth and centered with a three-tierea wedding cake, flanked by lighted tapers. The hos tess was assisted in receiving the guests by Mrs. L. W. Shirley, Mrs. Russel Dobson, Mrs. Hillard John son. Miss Jean Ivey and Mrs. Paul Fague. Immediately following the recep tion the couple left for a wedding trip to New Orleans and Kentucky. For traveling the bride wore a blue gabardine suit with brown acceso ries and orchid corsage from her bridal bouquet. Mrs. Langley was graduated from Orlando High school and at tended Stetson university. For the last four .years she has been em ployed in the ticket office of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad com pany, Orlando, Fla. Lt. Langley attended schools in Kentucky, and has been in the U.S. Army for the past six years, dur ing which time he served sixteen months in the Pacific theatre. At present, Lt. Langley is stationed at Pine Castle Army Air base, near Orlando. The out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Aubine Batts, Virginia Lee batts and Jack Batts, of Wil mington, Mrs. E. F. Moore and E F Moore, Jr., of. Richmond, Va., Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Taylor and Miss Elizabeth Smith, Jacksonville, Fla. and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Stafford, Plant City, Fla. The custom of having a best man at weddings is believed to be a survival of primitive marriage by capture, when a man seized a woman and carried her away by force. Martha Koonce, Byran Frazelle Wed In Church Miss Martha Joyce Koonce be came the bride of Byron McKoy Frazelle in a lovely ceremony Tuesday evening, August 27 at 5:30 o’clock at the Methodist church of Richlands. The vows were spoken before the Rev. W. A. C r o w, officiating minister, using the double ring ceremony, against a background of palms and candles. Mrs. Louis Sylvester rendered the wedding music and Miss Sara Alma Taylor sang “Because,” “I Love Thee” and “The Lord's Prayer.” The bride, given in marriage by her uncle, John Harvey of Kinston, was attired in a white marquisette gown with swiss embroidery. The full skirt extended into a train. Her finger tip veil was trimmed m orange blossoms. Mary Esther Koonce, of Golds boro, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a gown of blue marquisette with blue gloves and carried an arm bouquet of pink gladioli tied with pink ribbons. The bridesmaids were Mrs. Lin ford Shaw, Mrs. Fred Harman Miss Sara Koonce, and Miss Jane Frazelle. They wore identical gowns of pink marquisette, styled tile same as the maid of honor, and pink gloves. Their headdress was of rosettes tied with rainbow ribbons and extended into two streamers. They carried a bouquet of mixed summer flowers tied with rainbow ribbons. Little Brenda Yelverton of Wil mington, niece of the bride, was1 flower girl. She was dressed identical to the bridesmaid. James Frazelle, brother of the groom, acted as best man. Z. W .Frazelle and Charles Fra zelle, cousins of the groom, Lin ford Shaw and Everette Barbee were ushers. The bride’s mother wore a black crepe dress, rose trimmed. The bridegroom’s mother wore a black and white dress. Her cor sage was of white asters and roses. The couple left on a wedding trip to unannounced points. For traveling the bride changed to a grey wool gabardine suit with white and black accessories. Her corsage ifras made from her bridal bouquet. Mrs. Frazelle is a graduate of Richlands High school and Peace Junior college. Mr. Frazelle is a graduate of Richlands High school an^ holds an honorable discharge from the United States Army. Mrs. Frazelle is the daughter of Mrs. Henry Bryant Koonce of Richlands and the late Mr. Koonce. Reception Follows Immediately after the ceremo ny, Mrs. Henry Bryant Koonce, mother of the bride, entertained at a reception at the Commuinty house. The building was bea;rtifully decorated carrying out the green and white color scheme. The bride's table was laid with a lace cloth centered with a bowl of white flowers with tapers in silver candelabra on either end. Ice cream in wedding molds, cake and punch were served. Mrs. John Harvey of Kinston presided over the punch bowl and Mrs. Charlie J. Frazelle at the bride’s book.
