ROYALL PROTESTS COST DUPLICATION Undersecretary Of War Praises Work Of AH Service Branches CORNITH, Miss., Nov. 11 — (JP) — Undersecretary of War Kenneth V. Royall praised the heroes of war Monday and then launched into some biting criticism of what he termed money wasted in duplication of services by the miltarv. Royall addressed the tri-state Armistice Day observance here. He said. “There is no place in American defense plans for selfish ambition in the naval or in the military air services. “And yet today we find wasteful duplications that cannot be justi fied. There can, for example, be no excuse for having both an Army and at a nearby Navy airfield two headquarters and two complete flight services. It may be an in teresting game to find out wheth er the weather is the same at two locations half a mile apart, but it is an expensive game. “It is hard to see why the Army and Navy must have two complete and saparate communications systems. ::And why should Army and eases Of The Horse, Conn; “ Oh, Ranger, Albright; Artist In Com merce, Sharpe; Detroit Tigers, Lieb. But it is more interesting to con sider what effect these purchases may have on national expenditures and national faxes.” Royall opened his address by pay ing tribute to the combat soldiers and marines and sailors of the past war and the first world war. Eure reported that last year more than half the corporation permits issued by his office had gone to World War II veterans. The secretary of state, here for the city’s Armistice Day celebra tion, said that a high proportion of the ex-servicemen undertaking new businesses were established in New Hanover county. “It is interesting to note how the veterans organizations of Wilming ton have joined in their efforts to give veterans the opportunities and to encourage them to take advan tage of the GI Bill of Rights. “There is no doubt that Wilming ton's business has grown within the past year due to veterans activ ities. Eure predicted a continued boom in small businesses thanks to the loan provisions of the pi bill.
