DR. W. H. WAKEFIELD, of Charlotte will be in Boone at the Critcher House, on Friday, July 17th, and at Banner Elk on Sat urday, July 18th. One day only. His practice is limited to the Eye, Lar, Nose and Throat and Fit ting Glasses The telephone switch board has been moved to its new quar tern in the Mrs. Toppings home in East Boone. We miss the good ladies in this part of the village, but the switch board will, of course, be just as convenient for 'phone-holders. That unique character and big-hearted citizen, Newt Banner was in town Monday and called long enough to shove in a sub scription to the Democrat. The partial eclipse of the sun Sunday a. m.t was closely scruti nized through smoked glass by a large number of our 'people. The scene was indeed, awe inspiring. "The elclipse," remarked an as tronomer of no little note, who is now rusticating in the moun tains, 'would have been total had it not been for the fact that the distance from the earth to to sun is now twice as great as it was some 40 year ago when the sun was entirely darkened." Exactly I The explanation is very lucid.
