Flue-Cured Growers Will Vote On July 12 • Issue Is Assessment of 10 Cents Per Acre For Promoting Trade A vote on the issue of whether Carolina’s flue-cured tobacco growers favor an assessment of ten cents per acre for the purpose of promoting the export trade of their product is sched uled for July 12. The main points of the special vote affecting every flue-cured tobacco grower in the! state was explained this week by Director I. 0. Schaub of the State College Extension Service. Authorized by the 1947 session of the State General Assembly, the ref erendum has been called by the direc tors of newly organized Tobacco As sociates, Inc., for every county in North Carolina where flue-cured to bacco is produced. The annual as sessment of ten cents per acre will be effective on the 1947, 1948 and 1949 crops, Director Schaub pointed out, if the measure is approved. A register of eligible voters will be ] prepared by county and community i [committeemen, and operators of farms ' on which flue-cured tobacco is being produced this year are asked to list [ with these officials the names and ad dresses of all persons sharing in the proceeds of such crops.
