Sunday in Norfolk, where they visited
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Luck.
Otis Winborne of Goldsboro was a
guest of D. B. Liles last week.
Miss Kate Aydlett of Elizabeth
City visited her brother and sister-in
law, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Wood, Sun
day.

daughter, Faye, of Norfolk, spent the
Thanksgiving holidays with Mrs. Lil

Harold Clay of Detroit, Mich, has
returned to the Colony Inn after
spending a month in Florida.
Ralph Leary has returned to his'
hojne in New Jersey after spending a
week with his mother, Mrs. Jack

r Eighty-one years ago a baby was
- born. This youngster is now greeted
and given counsel on things and stuff
. by his older friend, Cap’n Dick Hall,
I who will be 8.1 on Christmas day.
Charles H. Bufflap was born in York,
t Pennsylvania, and after a most active
life-as an iron worker throughout the
( eastern part of the Keystone State,
retired at the age of 78. He was
married to Anna Mary Spangler, who
passed on 33 years ago. Four chil-
I dren, three boys and one girl, are still
, living.
J. Edwin Bufflap, editor of The
Chowan Herald, is the eldest and
mighty proud offspring of this most
, active American.
Charles H. Bufflap has made many
friends in Edenton and Chowan Coun
| ty. In fact his coming to visit his son
for the last few years coincided with
! the coming of the watermelon boats,
j And now he has decided to make his
home in Edenton permanently.

BIBLE CLASS MEETS TUESDAY

I Auto Accident Fatal
To Mrs. Cassie Cox
Killed Instantly While
On Way to Visit In
Washington
Relatives and friends in Edenton
were horrified Wednesday morning of
last week when, news was received
that Mrs. Cassie Cox had been in
stantly killed in an automobile wreck
which occurred near Sunbury. Mrs
Cox only a short time before, left the
home of her stepmother, Mrs. W. E.
Hassell, to drive to Washington, D. C.,
to spend the Thanksgiving holiday
with her daughter, Mrs. Edwin A.
Weihe.
Mrs. Cox’s car for some reason left
the highway and in an effort to turn
back on the road, her car skidded and
crashed into a truck coming in the op
posite direction. Mrs. Cox was appar
ently instantly killed and the car
j completely demolished. The driver of
the truck was only slightly injured
and proceeded with his work shortly
after the accident
Mrs. Cox, 63, was a native of Eden
ton and the widow of the late E. M. ]

Cox. She made her home part of the
time with Mrs. Hassell and had plan
ned to leave this month to spend the
winter in Palm Beach, Florida.

Funeral services were held at the
Ziegler Funeral Home Friday after
■ noon at 3 o’clock with the Rev. Har
old W. Gilmer, rector of St. Paul’s
Episcopal Church, officiating. Inter
ment was made in Beaver Hill Ceme
tery.
Pallbearers were C. T. Griffin, R. N.
Hines, George Wood, Jr., Meredith
Jones, Jr., Thomas J. Hoskins, Jr.,
Edward Wozelka, Ep Debnam and
Graham White.

MEETS MONDAY AFTERNOON
The Woman’s Missionary Society
of the Edenton Baptist Church will
meet Monday afternoon, in regular
monthly meeting. The Ruby Daniels
Circle will give the program. This
