Chowan Boys Plan To Enter Exhibits In Fat Stock Show Show Scheduled to Be Held In Elizabeth City May 17 and 18 Two Chowan County 4-H Club members, Rufus Smithson, Jr., of Center Hill, and Bezar Davenport of Edenton-will exhibit fat steers in the Elizabeth City Fat Stock Show which will be held May 17 and 18, accord ing to assistant County Agent Robert S. Marsh. The exact place of the show and sale will be announced very shortly. This will be the third time Rufus has shown a calf, while Bezar will be showing a calf for the first time this -year. Another Chowan 4-H Clubber, Wil bur Harrell, is planning to enter two pens of fat hogs in the show, it also being his first entry. The Swine Department is not limit ed only to entries by 4-H and FFA boys, but any Chowan County farm er may enter hogs in the show. Hogs may be entered in three classes: Pen of eight fat hogs, pen of three fat hogs, an dindividual fat hogs. Hogs entered in each of the three classes should weigh not less than 180 and not more than 300 pounds each. Each ' exhibition is limited to two entries in each class, and no hogs except those entered in the ton litter contest are eligible to compete in but one class. The Albemarle Fat Stock Show and Sale offers the farmers of the Al bemarle area a wonderful opportunity to dispose of good fat hogs at top prices, and it is hoped that many farmers will take advantage of this opportunity. Fat hogs in this show and sale can weigh as much as 300 pounds, which is considerably more than the weight for top hogs at ordinary sales. ' Farmers who have eight or more fat hogs for sale in the next two months might do well to enter them in the Fat Stock Show. Prices paid for hogs at the past shows and sales have justified the time and trouble required to enter them. Mr. Marsh wishes to emphasize the fact that the entries in the Swine Department are not limited to 4-H and FFA members, but any Chowan farmer who has hogs (barrows or gilts) weighing between 180 and 300 pounds at the date of the sale can enter them in the show and sale. Farmers desiring to do so should contact the County Agent’s Office. Forest Warden Urges Caution With Fire Forest Warden Frank V. White again this week reminds citizens to be extremely careful in the matter of fires. Mr. White says woodlands are very dry and carelessly throwing matches, cigars or cigarettes in woods or even along the highway may re sult in a disastrous forest fire. He again urges everyone to help carry out the slogan “Keep Chowan County "Green.” I gattvai' /iumittcfi S | !3 That’s the story of pleasure and satisfaction that! p* t O X. ;; only Canvas Awnings can tell.
