Williams, six-weeks-old , son of Mr. and Mrs. Kelley B. Wil liams, died in the Albemarle Hospital ‘ at Elizabeth City Sunday morning at 2 o’clock. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Wil liford Funeral Home with W. J, Berryman officiating. Interment was ' made in the family cemetery at Cen- \ ter Hill. Record Poundage Tobacco Sold On Rocky Mount Mart Market Now Operating With Fifth Set of Buyers Steadily since the opening of the Bright Belt markets, the Rocky Mount Tobacco Market has been sell ing a record poundage of leaf for top Belt prices, figures released by the Rocky Mount Tobacco Board of Trade indicate. Last week prices on the Rocky market averaged $45 per hundred pounds as against the Belt average of $44.28 for the season. The market, operating this season with a fifth set of buyers, is attracting an appreciable share of the total poundage offered for the sale on the Belt. Warehouse men and farmers alike have shown satisfaction with the trend of the sales. Poundage of leaf offered for sale in Rocky Mount last week reached a high of 1,778,432 on Friday. The quality of the leaf was a little off, however, and the sales paid out $763,- 272.73 for a $42.92 average. Only small amounts of tobacco remained on the warehouse floors over the week-end and holiday. Best money day of the week was Thursday, when 1,673,798 pounds were sold for $767,593.91 averaging $45.86. On Wednesday the Rocky Mount market sold 1,116,696 pounds of the 7,848,176 pounds offered on the Belt and topped the Belt average by $2.01. The Belt average that day f/as $43.32, the Rocky Mount average was $45.86. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Mr. and Mrs. Vannie E. Boyce of Tyner announce the engegement of their daughter, Miss Daisy Naomi Boyce, to Louis Carlton Bunch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Bunch of Eden ton. No date has been set for the wed ding. I , r—— Colonials Guests Os Edenton Rotarians | Doc Murphy Entertains Group With Humor ous Skit Edenton’s Colonials were guests of the Rotary Club at last week’s meet ing, when 16 members of the squad enjoyed the Rotarians’ weekly lunch eon in the Parish House. A feature cf the meeting was a humorous skit by Doc Murphy, popular third pack er, who is considered the club’s wit tiest player. John A. Holmes paid tribute to the Colonial ball club as a whole, saying that not only the Rotary Club, but Edenton as a whole is proud of this year’s team, not only for the brand of baseball they played, but for their exemplary conduct as individuals. He said they set a splendid example for the youth of the town. Colonial players who attended the meeting were Manager William (Gashouse) Parker, Willis Murphy, Joe Fulghum, John Pavlich, John Bohonko, Calvin Schadel, Art Hoch, Russell Wheeler, Pete Messina, Joe Tysko, Ken Andrewsh, Bill Price and Stanley Johnson. Each one of the players was asked to stand and give his name, the town he hails from and the position he plays. J. Clarence Leary, Jr., was taken into the club as a new member. Emergency Landing At Local Air Field \ Experiencing difficulty when a spinder head blew off one of the motors, a Peninsula Air Transport C-46 charter plane carrying 38 pas | sengers made an emergency landing at the Edenton Marine Air Station late Saturday afternoon. The plane had 38 passengers aboard and was enroute from Miami to New York. The'stranded plane and crew were accommodated at the base until two smaller planes arrived from New York and proceeded on their journey. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. William Stokely an nounce the birth of a son, bom Sat urday afternoon at 6:15 o’clock in the Chowan Hospital.
