Jesse Bevins was instantly kill ed when struck by a car driven by T. S. Taylor of Merry Hill. Taylor was exonerated of all blame by a coroner's jury, who ruled the accident was unavoid able. Final plans were announced for the entertainment of a caravan of travel bureau chieftains who were to be entertained at Hotel Joseph Ijewes by W. R. Horton. Members of the Edenton Soft Ball League agreed to loan the flood lights to the Edenton High School's football team in order to play a night game of football. A news story from the Univer sity of Alabama stated that Paul Spencer, an Edenton football star, was making good on the fresh men team and that his showing with the freshmen was very pleasing to the Alabama coaches. Mayor J. H. McMullan issued a call for a large attendance at a public hearing to consider im provements in the channel from Edenton Bay to the Fish Hatch ery. Mary Forehand, Anna Wood, Ernest Ward, Jr., and Heywood Ziegler. Jr., were elected presi dent of the senior, junior, sopho more and freshmen classes, re spectively at the Edenton High School. Dr. F. E. Garris, health officer, reported having discovered a very striking tuberculosis health men ace among colored people in Cho wan County. W. J. Taylor was reported as gradually improving and was able to be about his bedroom. Nineteen young men from Cho wan County were enrolled for U||atMiemcuta|l| CCC duty by William Perkins, county welfare superintendent. The Chowan County Commis sioners appropriated $25 as a membership fee in the Eastern Carolina Chamber of Commerce. The Grand Jury recommended that the wooden stairway to the second floor of the jail be re placed with iron steps.
