-section TWO PAGE SIX Time To Study 9/ Problem Areas Overman Says Now is a good time for farm- \ ers to find out what’s wrong j with problem areas' in their , fields which reduce production 1 and eat into profits. This ad- 1 vice is given by County Agent! C. W. Overman, who points out I that such problem area should j be identified and corrected soon after abnormal symptoms ap pear, “It is not always possible to find the trouble” says Over man, “but frequently it can be traded to some deficiency or un balance of plant nutrients, to a disease problem or to a com bination of these and other sac- j tors.” ; The county agent suggested | the following procedure as a means of solving the problem of weak spots. 1. Take a composite soil sample from several places in the area of abnormal growth, no matter how small. 2. Take a second composite sample representative of areas of normal growth in the same field. 3. Fill out soil sampling in formation sheet as completely as possible, describing the abnor mal appearance and growth of plants. Also suoply other per tinent information about the | problem area, such as when it was first observed, previous soil , treatments. S* nd the soil' samples and information sheet to the soil testing division, N. C. Department of Agriculture, Ra leigh, N. C. 4. Send a specimen of a live plant suffering from abnormal growth to the Plant Disease Clinic, Gardner Hall, N. C. State College, Raleigh. Directions for packing and mailing such speci mens can be obtained from the county agent. This le&son teaches that if we are to live as God’s people, we must be willing to speak as wit nesses for Him. i Studying our lesson text for to day we have an apt lesson to lenrn. We read of the training of Samuel, and of the ill that be fell the house of the priest, Eli, and why. Elkanah and Hannah lived at Ramah. Hannah was childless, | so, when they went, as was their custom, to Shiloh to worship and j observe the religious festivals there, she stole into the church to pray for a son. Eli, the priest, j thinking she had drunk too much wine, treated her roughly at first, j However, she revealed her trou ble, and soon was blessed by him. In due time Hannah bore Elkanah a child and named him Samuel. Hannah loved her son deeply, but she took him to Shiloh and left ( him there as an apprentice priest | to Eli, just as she had promised! to do if God would grant her re-, quest for a j Eli himself had two sons, but, 1 Chowan County Churches EDENTON BAPTIST REV. THE CHOW AM HERALD, EDENTON, NORTH CAROLINA. THURSDAY JUNE 28. 1988. . although Eli was a good and ; faithful priest, and a good man, >he was a weak father. His sons were spoiled, and committed many sins unworthy -of their call ing in life. Eli knew of this, but I his remonstrations were weak I and of no avail, and for this God | finally punished him. Samuel, sound asleep, heard a voice calling him, and went to Eli, thinking he had called. Eli told him he had not, and sent him back to bed. When this same thing had happened for the third time, Eli realized it was the Lord 1 calling Samuel, and told the boy to answer. This Samuel did, and the Lord revealed to him that the house of Eli was to be punished, and why. When Eli prevailed I upon Samuel to tell him what the Lord had said, Eli accepted God’s verdict, because he was a I man dedicated to God, and he did not turn against his God. | God still calls men and women to be his spokesmen, and, if we j are to live as one of God’s peo -1 pie and hear the call, it is our Christian duty to obey it. Every | ti' v '« there is a church-school class without a teacher, a Christian church in distress, a new mission field opened up, or a community service that Ls needed—all these i are calls from God.
