SECTION TWO PAGE SIX Advice Is Given To Vets Selling Homes Can Be Released From; Liability of Govern- ! ment GI Loan A veteran selling his home and GI mortgage should first contact the Veterans Administrat.on if he wishes to be released from lia bility to the government on his GI loan. Such a release protects the vet- I eran in the event the new pur- i chaser defaults in payments, VA said. The agency explained that a 1 1956 law allows veterans to be re- , leased from liability to the gov- I ernment, provided the new pur- J chaser meets credit requirements I and assumes the veteran’s obliga-1 tions to the government on the GI loan. <j The new purchaser need not be a veteran, and the government’s guaranty of the loan is not affect ed by releasing the veteran from his liability. In most states the only cost of ; obtaining the release is a small I fee, usually not more than $5. for ’ a credit report on the proposed buyer. Release of the veteran from li ability to the government does not automat'cally release him from liability to the lender. However. VA emphasized, it will furnish the prospective buy er’s credit report to the lender, and otherwise assist any veteran who wishes to seek his lender’s release. VA makes no charge for this service although the lender may require the payment of a nominal fee for the processing of his release. Local Group To Attend i New York Convention , Os Jehovah Witnesses About 14 members of Jehovah’s Witnesses from the Edenton con- ‘ gregation will attend an interna--j tional convention in New York, City July 27 through August 3. J. C. Hall, presiding mirvster of j the Edenton congregation, in an- | nouncing the plans of the local , delegates, said that it has been necessary to cancel all local meet ings from July 23 to Aueust 5, due to many being away for the Christian assembly. Yankee Stadium has again been secured, but because of the cramped quarters of the previous assembly the Polo Grounds will be used in addition. The program will be presented by the same 1 particmants following the first i presentation Yankee Stadium, j Most of those from the Edenton congregation wdl be staving in private homes in New York City .gnd nearbv areas. All hotel ac commodations will be filled, ac cording to the Watchtower room ing committee, and the maiority of attenders will be placed in homes following a gieantic house- ' to-house effort to find available 1 accommodations. . Lesson Text: Leviticus 19:11-18: Deuteronomy 15:7-8; Romans I 13:8-10; James 2:1-13. In the unit studied this month i we have concerned ourselves with i the meaning anil significance of | justice. We have tried to find ! the real meaning of justice and I mercy as revealed in the nature of I God himself. Our goal has been ; to determine how justice and mercy are important to Christian ; living in all areas of experience. ■ Earlier we noted that Jesus ) teachings about the kingdom of | ! God were h ghly personal. But j j we also noted that he extended J | the love of one’s neighbor to in- . ! elude all men. We feel that all | 8 social groups are under the law i J of love. too. The question for dis- j jj cussion today is: How can the j principles of justice be expressed | I bv Christians in their community life? How can we translate into Christian action the des.res and motives of our hearts, Jesus taught that the egoism of the family should be broken down . and that the love that is normally , | (and naturally) confined within Chowan County Churches EDENTON BAPTIST REV. Turning to the Book of Leviti cus, and reading that particular excerpt which has been chosen as part of our text fhr this week, we find the wor«J»: "... you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.” Again, in tlie New Testament, in the Book of James, we read: “Mv brethren, show no partiality as you hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory ...” These passages can hold a personal les son for many of us, for pass dis crimination, in no matter how mild a form, has probably been i practiced by many of us in mo j ments of thoughtlessness.
