Hoey won the Democratic nomi nation for Governor of North Carolina and U. S. Senator re spectively. J. G. Campen, Chairman of the Chowan County War Finance Committee, was notified that the county's overall nuola in the Fifth War Loan drive had been set at $426,000 of which $93,000 was earmarked for Series E bonds. Meeting in special session, the County Commissioners agreed to share with the town the expense of making necessary repairs to the county dock. The cost of the work was estimated to be about $4,500. Lieut. G- H. Wheeler succeeded Lieut. Henry Chase as chaplain at the U. S. Marine Corns' Air Station. Miss Florence Elizabeth Ward and Joe Anthony Webb, Jr., were united in marriage at the home of the Rev. Frank Cale. Frazier Guriev, son of Captain and Mrs. Henry A. Gurley, a member of the 1944 graduating class of Edenton High School, was winner of a war bond as determined by a clock arrange ment in the Campen show win dow. The silver wings of the Army Air Force and a commission as second lieutenant were present ed to Haywood Cullen Swindell, son of Mr. and Mrs. James D. The roads in question are state reads Nos. 1207 and 1230. The 1207 road leads from the Ad vance Community Building to Grover Calc’s store and 1230 leads from N. C. 32 at C. J.
