Natural Gas Firm Reports FAYETTEVILLE Earn ings of $241,484 after taxes for the first quarter of the new fiscal year have been reported by North Caro lina Natural Gas Corpora tion in an interim report to stockholders. Frank Barragan, presi dent, pointed out that the company had been able to maintain excellent earn ings despite at>sorbing the impact ~6f income taxes for the first time. Sales for the latest peri od amounted to $3,359,762, representing an increase of almost 18 per cent over the $2,882,988 of the same period a year ago. The in crease was even more sig nificant in view of the warmest December weather in the company’s history. President Barragan said sales were expected to rise substantially during 1968 with indications pointing to the largest number of new customer attachments of any previous period. Figuring prominently in the expanded sales volume will be the opening of new service territories in the northeastern part of the state for which North Ca rolina Natural Gas Cor poration will issue $8 mil lion of additional first mortgage bonds to finance the construction program. Meanwhile, the utility executive reported that in dustrial firms have con tracted to take the off peak volumes of natural gas which NCNG has ob tained from its supplier.
