Y. U. Thirteen Norfolk State College students are tak ing summer session courses at New York University under a federally-financed pregram in which “devel oping” schools are aided by “established" univer sities. The students, whose ma jors range from mathe matics and physics to business administration and home economics, arc jun iors who are taking classes nt either the Washington Square center or the Uni versity Heights campus in the Bronx. . Each student is taking two three-credit courses during the summer session which ends July 26. NYU’s special cooperative i elationship with the Nor folk division of Virginia State College is designed to help in training mem bers of the Norfolk faculty as well as aiding students. The summer program is only one of several pro jects involving the two schools. During the past t\go years, for example, several NYU deans and central administration per sonnel have visited Norfolk State in a consulting capa city. Sidney Roth, NYU co ordinator for the project, said the cooperative pro gram is financed with funds provided under Title 111 of the Higher Educa tion Act. He said the pro gram was renewable annu r ally at Norfolk State's op tion and would be con tinued at least through 1968-69. It began in 1966. The co-directors of the project at Norfolk State are Marion Hayes, an in structor in educational tele vision, and Dr. Marian Capps, director of the test ing bureau at the college. Miss Hayes, who is with the students in New York, said there are 23 students in the program. Thirteen Inf them are attending sum- Imer school at NYU while I the rest are going to sum mer courses m Norfolk. Miss Hayes said the en tire group was previously tested, and would be test ed again in the fall .to de termine attitudes toward education at the two col leges in the two cities. She added that there would al so be a comparison of class achievement between the two groups. While they are in New York, the Norfolk State students will attend Broad way plays, take tours in OUR SAVERS ARE STRONG ON FISCAL FITNESS Peoples Bank has put together a great savings account program.
