PAGE TWO I—A BROAD STREET BULLETIN vJHHhJf Kate White clouds dancing in the dear blue sky, Sea gulls with their raucous calls float by. The sun shines warm on the quiet shore. And the deep blue waves run back and forth. No greater joy will I ever find, Than here by the sea. capturing peace of mind The beach is. indeed. i>eauliful these clear au tumn days. Somehow, one feels just like laying on the sand and watching the world go by. It's just great to have these times of quiet enjoyment, but they come all too infre quent as cool weather ap proaches. If someone asks if you believe in God. how could you not say Yes. When 1 look out my window and see the different colors of flowers blooming so lovely and then I see a large bluejay and a pair of card inals these things just couldn’t happen! This year there seems to be a plentiful supply of apples and since the ap ple is a most versatile fruit, I try to keep many of them on hand. There’s fried apples for breakfast, applesauce, apple dump lins, apple pie, cobblers, fritters and I’m sure sev eral other ways of cooking them and, best of all, they arc good just to eat. So keep apples on your menu, most everyone likes them. All seems quiet on the school front, in spite of many doubts and fault finding on the part of many people. But if you have lots of misgivings, you can allay some of them by driving past the schools at recess and you’ll see most of the children playing peacefully to gether. WEATOE^JULLETIN! C. Sometimes it sounds just like we who live on East Church Street are living on a freeway—it's so very noisy with so many very large trucks zooming by. It will surely be good news if and when we ever get a bypass around Eden ton. Here is a good recipe for Apple Pudding, another Pennsylvania Dutch dish: 6 large apples. 2 eggs. \ cup sugar. 1 tsp. cinnamon, cup shortening. t* cup water. 1 cup flour. 1 tsp. baking powder. 1 tsp. salt. Pare and slice apples in to greased baking dish. Combine sugar and cinna mon and mix with apples. In a separate dish place well beaten eggs, salt and shortening and mix thor oughly and flour, baking powder and water. Pour over apples and bake at 350 degrees about one-half hour or until done. A Few Hints Pour melted parafine in to a broken dish or vase and it will seal cracks. To clean copper, use a half lemon and sprinkle with baking soda. Rub over surface to brighten it up. For a better taste in spare ribs, soak in water a half hour before broil ing. Cover an old magazine with aluminum foil and you will have a handy mat for hot dishes.
