C. H. Wood, Jr. Joins Kaiser Charles H. Wood, Jr., of Edenton has been recently employed by Kaiser Agri cultural Chemicals, a divi sion of Kaiser Aluminum Chemical Sales Cor poration. Kaiser Agricultural Chemical is a basic pro ducer of fertilizers, nitro gen products and pesti cides. Wood is tihe East ern District salesman for Kaiser and he and his fam ily will continue to live in Edenton. N. L. He attended Edenton High School and continued his formal education at The Citadel, the Military Col lege of South Carolina, where he majored in busi ness administration. Wood served four years in the Naval Air Force in World War II as a pilot aboard an aircraft carrier with active service in the South Pa cific. Wood has had 22 years in the fertilizer and pesti cide industry. He was af filiated with Olin Mathie son Chemical Corporation and recently with Colum bia Nitrogen Corporation. He is a member and vestryman of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He is a member of the local Ma sonic Lodge. He married the former Nell Riddick of Gatesville. They have three children, Charles, Nellie and Emmett. Area College Is Accredited The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools voted to admit College of the Albemarle to full membership at the 73rd annual meeting concluded Wednesday, December 4, in Atlanta. Membership is limited to institutions ac credited by the associa tion. “I am thrilled to be able to bring home the good news,” said Dr. Bruce Pet teway, president of the col. lege. “This recognition is a significant step forward in the brief history of the college.” COA was one of six two year colleges in North Ca rolina accredited at this meeting and is among 480 other institutions of higher education in the region, covering 11 southern states and Latin America, holding membership in the associa tion. Setting standards to mea sure the academic respect ability.of. colleges and.uni versities is a functioh of the regional accrediting ag. encies. The Southern As sociation has been able to contribute to the improve ment of education in the region primarily through awarding or withdrawing accreditation. Accredita tion is awarded those in stitutions which meet the standards of criteria of the association and whose to tal educational program is coordinated, administered and held in proper bal ance.
