BUWNG our keep Careless debris burning causes forest fires which an nually rob the South of its keep-in the form of thou sands of jobs. Jobs related to wood-using industries. Jobs that put dinner on the table and clothes on the children. Let’s make an all-out effort to keep these jobs available. Be extra careful with fires yourself. And watch for and report the malicious woods arsonist. Let’s earn our keep. IX mm 432!. HELP PREVENT SoV 1 FOREST FIRES IN.THESOUTH c o UH c' v When you feel nice inside And fortune smiles on you, Remember, a single word or smile Will make the sun come through; To one whose days are dreary It will change grey skies to blue. Can’t you remember many days when you’ve felt out of so-ts, things go wrong or you’re so very sad? Then you meet some one with a cheerful smile, who perhaps will stop and chat a while. On the other hand, I have experi enced the feeling of well being at the beginning of my day and then I meet someone I know who will perhaps unintentionally look the other way and it will ruin my whole day. So, remember, please —be kind—it costs nothing! This week our Methodist Women’s Society was invit ed to hold its Christmas meeting at the home of Mrs. Frances (Herbert) Hollowell at Queen Anne’s Place. It was a thrill to meet in such a lovely place, which really reflect ed the meaning of family and home and the true spirit of hospitality. Our group was especially glad, too, to present one of our most faithful members, Miss Aurelia Layden, with a life membership and pin. The Christmas season brings so many good things, like parties, seeing old friends and Christmas messages. C BROAD STREET BULLETIN BY Kale it seems to get better. I’ve heard from many who were there this year how wonderful it was and even though it _was cold out side, our hearts and spirits were warmed by this spe cial music. It’s so good to hear from some of you who actually read this column, especial ly at times when I get quite discouraged with the feeling of inadequacy in writing. This week Mrs. Helen Parks sent me the following recipe, which she says is net necessarily a Christmas recipe, but is delicious the whole year round. 1 pkg. white cake mix. 1 pkg. strawberry jello. 4 eggs. x k cup water. % cup crisco oil. x k pkg. frozen straw berries. Mix cake mix with jello. Add eggs, water and oil. Fold in berries. Bake in two greased and floured pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes in 350 degree oven. Frost with one box of confectioner's sugar mixed with pkg. straw berries (drained) and one stick of softened butter. (Thanks, Mrs. Parks). SUDDEN THOUGHT— You know you’ve reached middle age when you get winded changing the rib bon on your typewriter. A Few Hints A cotton pad, dipped in witch hazel, does a good job in cleaning typewriter keys. If marshmallows harden, put them in a paper bag in the bread box with the bread for a few days and they’ll freshen up. Put plastic sponges in the washing machine and they will come out clean and fresh. To keep a lay'er cake fresh after it is cut, wrap a slice of bread with it. The bread dries out and the cake remains soft. A twist of lemon peel to the brine will keep olives from going flat or tasting bitter.
