Bunch, superin tendent of the hatchery, re ported, at the closing date for taking shad, that 20 million eggs were secured which was the largest number in one season since 1822. Edenton High School’s Band participated in the dedication exercises of foe new post of fice at Columbia. Members of Edenton Lions Club, Red Men and a com 'oination of Masons and Ro tarians formed a softball league and began a regular schedule of games. Superintendent John A. Holmes announced that open house would be held at foe Edenton School ito allow vis iters to inspect the new in dustrial department and get some idea of what students were doing and see what they had done during the past year. The Mitchener building at the corner of Broad and Queen Streets, until recently occupied by the (Friendly Market, was about ready to house a case by Jerry Mor gan of Miami, Fla. Geddes Potter was elected president of Edenton Lions Club to succeed Dr. Wallace Griffin. Katherine Copeland was awarded the honor of being foe champion cake baker in a contest held by members of foe County 4-H Clubs. She was a member of the Chowan 4-H Club. Emma Smith and Louise Bunch were second and third respectively in the cake baking contest. 26 YEARS AGO After being a patient in Chowan Hospital for about 12 weeks, a drive was started to save the life of Daisy Alice Ward, when about 63 per cent of her skin was burned when she was washing clothes and her dress caught fire from an overheated stove. The drive was headed by W. E. Debnair., prominent radio news commentator. To save the girl’s life it was ne cessary to secure blood, skin and money. J. M. Boyce was the first person to donate skin for the purpose of graft ing. In a second opening of bids for a new white high school, Edenton school trustees re ported to the County Com missioners that the lowest bids were about $45,000 above the amount of money avail able for the school. The Commissioners saw no way to raise the extra money unless the tax rate was boosted, so that a special meeting was expected to be called to de termine if ways could be worked out to raise foe ne cessary money. C., where at a luncheon of the North Carolina delegates she reviewed the history of the James Iredell house and told of its purchase by the Tea Party Chapter. Members of the American 'Legion Auxiliary staged a community turkey supper in the Edenton armory. Two home demonstration' clubs, Warren Grove and I White Oak, conducted clean-1 up tours in their communi ties. The North Carolina'Board of Conservation and Develop ment reported that foe catch | of shad and herring in rivers: and sounds of Northeastern j North Carolina had declined' some 80 per cent during the past 10 years. j Chowan County’s first fifth Sunday sing at Rocky Hock Baptist Church attracted such a crowd that many were un-j able to enter the building. Miss Myrtle Jeanette Ed-' wards, daughter of Mr. and, Mrs. Arthur Edwards, partici pated in the spring concert of the Norfolk Symphony and j Choral Association at the Norfolk Arena. Congressman Herbert Bon ner reported that foe Rural Electrification Association ap is North 16 degrees East 841 feet from the Northern edge of the right of way of the road leading from Small’s Cross Roads to Tyner, and running thence along the edge of said N. C. Highway No. 32, North 16 degrees Eust 7.7 feet to the center of a ditch; thence South 80 de grees, 30 minutes East along the center of said ditch 350 feet; thence South 16 degrees West 10 feet to an iron pipe at the line of W. T. Eason, thence North 80 degrees West 350 feet along the said Eason line to the point of begin ning. 2. Beginning at the center of the ditch above referred to, which point is North 16 degrees East 848.7 feet from the Northern edge of said road leading from Small’s Cross Roads to Tyner, and running thence along the Eastern edge of the right of way of N. C. Highway No. 32, North 16 degrees East 282.7 feet to a post; thence along the line of other prop erty of said Carolyn B. White, South 74 degrees East 348 feet to an iron pipe; thence along the line of other property of said Carolyn B.
