SECTION B Golf News By LEW DEXTER Starting on September 16 I will be working on the greens getting them ready for Winter overseeding around October 14. They will be verticut, aerified and top dressed but you will be able to play on them only they will be a little rough for a week or 10 days. J. Overton, form erly of Edenton, received his AB degree in physical educa tion from Elon College during graduation exercises on Au gust 'ls. Overton, a former All-East and All-Conference selection in football from John A. Holmes High School, was a two-year starter on the Elon College football team at de fensive tackle. For the past two years, Overton was head freshman football coach at Elon where his teams com piled a perfect 7-0 won-loss record. Recently, Overton was em ployed by the newly consoli dated Ayden - Grifton Higli School as varsity line and head JV football coach. Ayd en-Grifton head football coach Nelson Gravatt commented, “We are very fortunate to have a coach with the quali fications of Mike Overton. We are sure Coach Overton will do an outstanding job with our offensive and de fensive linemen.” In addition to his coaching duties, Overton will teach biology at the Ayden-Grifton High School. Edenton, North Carolina, Thursday, September 2, 1971 IMeeting Slated I By Witnesses | Jehovah’s Witnesses of Cir | cuit 36 have chosen Durham ias the place for their next I semi-annual circuit conven- I tion, according to information I made public today by Kelly I Bond, presiding minister of I the Edenton Central Unit con- I gregation. The meeting is scheduled | to take place September 10- I 12, at the James E. Shepard I Junior High School in Dur [ ham. More than 1,200 delegates from 17 congregations are ex pected. Members of the local congregation are making defi nite plans to attend. Inter ested persons wishing to share the spiritual benefits of this three-day Seminar may con tact Kelly Bond, Route 1, Box 108, Edenton for final arrangements. Bond announced the con vention as a climax to the regular weekly service meet ing at the Kingdom Hall. The purpose of this Dur ham meeting Bond said: “Is to give Jehovah’s Witnesses and their friends three days of special ministerial training that we in turn may be of greater benefit to the people of our community in a spirit ual way.” The convention is on the circuit level, and sponsored by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York. All sessions will be open to the public, Bond said. Activities Set At Providence Sunday activities at The Providence Baptist Church begin at 9:30 A. M., with a ' Bible study program with Norfleet Bond as director. Dr. William C. Butts, pastor, , will deliver the communion | sermon and administer com munion. The senior choir will present the music for the morning service. ■ The evening vesper service I will be at 6 P. M. J. E. Dix | on, president of the Youth I Fellowship Choir, an usher I and active worker in the I church, will be presented for I ordination as a deacon and the ordination sermon will be by Dr. Butts. All choirs will serve along with the ushers. The Board of Deaconess will assemble as a group and the candidate will be pre sented by Chairman of Dea cons J. B. Small; William A. Reeves, vice chairman, will give the hand of fellowship. The public is invited to at- L tend any or all of these ser vices. COMPLETES COURSE G. W.
