Copeland vs. R. Roun tree. R. Harrell vs. Lowe. Sixth Flight Already Played Darnell defeated Hudec 1-up. P. C. Ashley defeated H. Ehringhaus 7-6. The finals in the sixth flight will match Darnell against P. C. Ashley. This will be play ed on Sunday, September 10, along with all the finals in each flight. Starting time for these final matches will com mence at 1 P. M. Starting with the stxth flight and working to the championship flight which will be the last group off the tec. This will allow the champion of your club tournament to be in the last group. Right after they come off Jjie lilth hole or 111 l a playoff is finished wc will have happy' hour for' all '(he contestants, after which will follow the banquet and the awarding of the trophies. Don’t forget to sign up by September 3 if yon plan to attend. You may sign up guests at 53.00 each. At 3 P. M. on September 4 the ladies will stage a Scotch foursome. On the 12th, 14th and lath of September the Filth Dis trict of the Coast Guard will hold their championship at the club. This will only tie up the tee from 12 until 2 P. M. on each of the above datesc. At the present time we are hoping to hold a member guest on the 17th of Septem ber. So get your guest lined up so that we can make this a bigger affair than last year. Those of you that played in the one last year remember what a nice time you' had. Let’s talk it up and get a larger tournament this year. Your pro would like to ex plain to members some of the reasons why he turned down a real good position recently in order to stay here. One was because we believe that we have found a home here. Another is that we also be lieve we- have made a lot of valuable friends and believe this club has not reached its potential as yet. We would like to share with you the ex perience of reachingg this po tential. Keep your head down and follow through. AROUND CHOWAN FARMS By R. M. THOMPSON County Extension Chairman The Peanut Field Day will be held at Lewiston on Wed nesday, September 6. This is the annual meeting for the Peanut Growers Association and static at 10 with the busi ness meeting and reports of the association. At 12 there will be a dutch luncheon and the field tour will begin at 1. They will have displays of machinery and demonstra tions, peanut varieties and oth er items that should be of in terest to peanut farmers. All people connected with pea nuts are invited to attend. We would' like to see our peanut i farmers in Chowan County take part in this event as we believe it will be of benefit, not only to hear what is said on the program but to talk to peanut farmers from other counties. Chowan County Fair will be held at the fair grounds beginning on Monday, Sep tember 18 and lasting through ! Saturday, September 23. We ; would like to have all boys j and girls put their exhibits on j display and also for the adults i to participate. The exhibits! are what, makes the fair in-1 leresting to many people, j This year there will be a swine show with a junior di vision and a senior division and an overall grand cham pion, both in individual and pen of three. The swine show is open to fanners and youth in the surrounding counties. We are asking that you con tact the county extension of fice in the county in which you live so that there will be room in the pens available for you when you bring your hogs in. Chappell, 57, of Nansemond Garden, Va., died suddenly at his home on Aug ust 22. A native of Chowan Coun ty, he was the son of Godfrey G. Chappell and the late Bet tie Taylor Chappell. He was a 14-year employee of Bel- Air Chevrolet of Suffolk, Va. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Riddick Chappell; two sons: Charles Larry Chappell of Smithfield, Va., and Curtis Taylor Chappell of the home, and one grandson. D. White, Edgar R. Luke, M. Wellons Staylor, Carlton B. Cox, Robert Perry, James C. Knight, Jr., T. Hillary Twine and James Beamon.
