Thursday, November 16,1978 1-95 Dedications Set November 21 RALEIGH - Gov. Jim Hunt will participate in [dedication ceremonies marking the formal opening of Interstate 95 from Kenly to Gold Rock. The 1-95 project is the longest and most costly segment of highway to be opened at one time in the state’s history. The total cost of the 38.1-million corridor is approximately $81.6-million. 'Four simultaneous rib bon-cutting ceremonies on I -95 will be held near Gold Rock, Rocky Mount, Wilson and Rock Ridge at 10 A.M., November 21. The 1-95 project is a year ahead of its original com pletion date, according to State Secretary of Tran sportation Tom Bradshaw. “The early completion of Fall Festival Food Lovers Event & “Brighten Your Komer” ™s the theme for the Annual Fall Festival sponsored by Center Hill Extension Homemakers Club, Tyner, to be held Saturday, from 10 A.M. uhtO 9:30 P.M. The festival will feature Kountry Komer Kafe manned by Mrs. H.T. Hoilowell and Mrs. J.C. Boyce. They will serve Kountry dinners of ham, collards and chicken pot pie as well as the usual hot dogs and hamburgers in the middle of the day. Fried chicken plates will be served for the evening meal beginning at 5 o’clock until 7 o’clock. Orders for the fried chicken plates will be taken at the community building or you may place your orders by calling Mrs. Hoilowell at 221-4940, or Mrs. Boyce at 221-4374. At the recent tea party celebration all the tea was sold and several visitors expressed interest in knowing when the next shipment would be in. Herring of Wilson, will cut the ribbon at the 1-95 - U.S.-264 in terchange near Wilson. Other state and local of ficials are also expected to be on hand at each dedication site. 1-95 extends from Maine to Miami, Florida. The opening of this corridor will allow motorists to travel on the interstate through North Carolina, except for the uncompleted 17-mile Fayetteville Bypass, which is scheduled to be finished in late 1980. The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremonies. The highway will be opened to traffic immediately after the brief ceremonies. IN MEMORIAM The family of Mrs. Bar bara S. ROCK V " " jC to gheenville - Death Claims Mr. Harris ROANOKE RAPIDS William Marvin (Bill) Harris, 53, brother of Mrs. Raymond (Anita H.) Tarkington of Edenton, died Sunday. He lived in Roanoke Rapids. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 o’clock in the Branch Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cedarwood Cemetery. Other survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lola Peedin Harris; four sons: Scott R. Harris of King; Alan M. Harris of Beaufort, S.C.; Billy D. and Paul R. Harris, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. Carrie Inscoe Harris of High Point; and one brother, Linwood A. Harris of Jamestown. Evans held their annual family reunion with a buffet dinner on October 29, at the Rocky Hock Community Center. There were approximately 120 in attendance. The children attending were: Mrs. Lillie E. Saunders, Mr. and Mrs. Carey Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Harrell, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Harrell, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Evans, and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Evans of Edenton ; Mr. and Mrs. Leon Byrum of Tyner; Mr. and Mrs. Nurney Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Lowe of Suffolk, Va. Many of the grand children and their families attended. There were also several guests, including Dr. George Braswell, Jr., of Southeastern Seminary, Wake Forest, who gave the Page 5-B invocation. A copy of the family history, compiled by Mrs. Leon Byrum, was given to each of the children. This occasion marked 50 years for the 12 children and their families meeting together for their reunion.
