Smith — Lane Mrs. Robert Timothy Lone Jeannie Lou Smith and Robert Timothy Lane were united in mar riage mi Saturday, September 8, 1984 at 2:00 p.m. The wedding was held at Beck’s Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Jeannie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Smith of Winston-Salem and Tim is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paulett Lane of Edenton. The Minister of Music, Ben Vogler, sang “Ever Growing” which was his own composition and is taken in part from John’s gospel. He also sang “Edelweiss Prayer” by Hammerstein. Eleanor Burge of Winston-Salem was the organist and Valerie Crum of Greenville, was the violinist. Reverend Paul Wonders, Jr. conducted the wed ding ceremony and his wife, Carolyn, was the director. The reception was held at Pinebrook Country Club. The parents of the groom gave the wed ding party and out-of-town guests an old-fashioned picnic on Friday evening before the rehearsal. This was held on the lawn of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Smith’s home. Paulett Lane, father of the groom, was the best man. Jeannie chose Sandra Wiggings of Winston Salem as her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Elizabeth Allred of Raleigh, Lois Geer of Winston Salem, Darla Kessinger of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sheri Perry of Zebulon, Wendy Robertson of Winston-Salem and Leigh Ann Smith of Winston-Salem. Groomsmen were Stuart Fulghum of Goldsboro, Steve Gardner of Richmond, Virginia, West Smallpf Edenton, Jerry Smith of Winston Salem and Brian West of Spivey’s Corner. Jeannie is a graduate of East Carolina University .and is employed as a nurse at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. Tim is a cum laude graduate of East Carolina University and is employed as a quality assurance technician at RJR Archer in Winston-Salem. After their1 wed ding trip to Bermuda they will be residing on Shattalon Drive in Winston-Salem. , Mary Carol Shutt Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shutt of Route 1, Edenton announce the engage ment of their daughter Mary Carol Shutt to David Ray Sawyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sawyer of Route 1, Edenton. The bride elect is a graduate of Dembigh High School Newport News Va. and is employed by Paradise Gardens Nursery. The prospective groom is a graduate of Chowan High School, and is employed by Weyerhayser. The wedding will take place at Rocky Hock Baptist Church. Eden ton. Oct. 20th at 6 o’clock. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Reverend John Gibson. Hie organ music included selections from Hande', FurceB, Marcello, and Mouret and was pro vided by Mr. Hugh Dail, Jr. Hie bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carey Alvin Phillips of Edenton. She is a graduate of Mary Baldwin College. Her father is the President of the Edenton Cotton Mills. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Fletcher, Jr. of Moneta, Virginia. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and Lee. His father is the President of Snap py Food Marts. The bride, escorted by her father wore a white gown of Satina, designed with a Victorian bodice, off the shoulder neckline, with bow accents and motifs of french im ported alencon lace, gauntlets of lace also and sprinkled with seed pearls, the full skirt extended to a cathedral length train. Her veil of illusion flowed to the tip of her dress and was accented by lace motifs and pearls and was arranged from a lace covered Camelot cap. She carried Camelot bouquet of white gardenias, stephanotis, and ivy. Miss Coles Hines of Raleigh was the maid of honor. Bridsmaids were Miss Breslin Fletcher of Roanoke, sister of the groom, Mrs. Thomas C. Phillips of Edenton, sister in law of the bride, Miss Jane Duke of Chapel Hill, Miss Kimber ly O’Donnell of Williamsburg, and Miss Heide Wood of Washington, D.C. Miss Breslin Krebs, the groom’s cousin, was the flower girl. Mr. Hugh Fletcher served as his sons best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Thomas C. Phillips and ilr. John G. Phillips both of Edbnfon, brothers of the bride, Mr. Boyd Martin of Fairfax, Virginia, Mr. Mrs. Jeffrey Randolph Fief char Dan Martin from Richmond, Mr. William Mauckfrom Lexington, and Dr. Mark Watts of Roanoke. Master Paul Southerington was the ring bearer. A reception was held immediate ly after the ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents, after which the couple left for their honeymoon trip ot Nova Scotia. The couple will reside in Roanoke, where the groom is the Vice-President of Snappy Food Marts. The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents at the Soundview Restaurant for the wed ding party, relatives, and out of town guests. The bride escorted by her father wore her mothers wedding gown of candlelight ivory. The bodice was silk organza, overlaid with chanti ly lace, adorned with clusters of seed pearls and sequins. It featured a scooped neckline and lace cap sleeves. The skirt was of silk organ za, featuring a wide band of Chan tilly lace caught up at intervals with satin bows, of matching lace that came to a point over her hand. Her veil of candlelight ivory illu sion, bordered with pearls was at tached to a satin wreath of babys breath and forget-me-nots. Her col onial bouquet was of pink roses, white lilies and imported Holland flowers, with streamers tied with Mr. an<lMrs. Bruce Morgan love knots. The matron of honor, maid of honor and bridesmaids all wore dusty rose tea length dresses of lustrous celanase crepe polyester. The bodice featured a round neckline in front and collar overlaid with matching lace, which formed a deep V in the back. Each atten dant carried a single pink rose. Their satin wreaths were of dusty rose. Mother of the bride wore a floor length rose colored dress of acetate polyester featuring a bodice of sheer chiffon sleeves, and a V neck, gathered at the shoulderline, with a crystal pleated skirt. Mother of the groom wore a floor length dress of burgandy taffeta, featuring a V neckline with high ruffled collar and a gathered skirt. Mrs. Denni McColm, sister of the bride, Boliver, Mo. was the matron of honor, maid of honor was Miss Marla Roweton, sister of the bride, Boliver, Mo. Continued On Page 3 A
