"We must build a new world, a far better world — one in which the eternal dignity of man is respected." President Harry S. Truman made this remark over 40 years ago, and it holds true today more than ever. Every year, hundreds of families put these words into action by opening their homes to foreign ex change students through the SHARE! High School Exchange Program. The SHARE! Program still needs volunteer host families in the Chowan County area to provide a bed, meals, and a lov ing home for high school stu dents arriving in August from over 28 countries including Germany, Japan, Brazil, China and Poland. The students, all between the ages of 15 and 18, participate in cross-cultural exchange, to learn about America and share their own customs and culture. Staying for five or 10 months, the students are screened both in their home country and by the SHARE! Program for aca demic excellence and English proficiency. The students are fully insured and are respon sible for their own personal spending money. The SHARE! High School Exchange Program'is a non profit educational foundation dedicated to promoting cross cultural understanding as a way to develop understanding, tol erance and friendships around the world. ^Interested Chowan County area families should contact the SHARE! Fellow of The Academy of General Dentistry CHANGING YOUR FACIAL CONTOUR Although the human body continues to change throughout life, changes in the adult occur much more slowly than in the child and are called "maturing features". In most people, the middle, autumn and later years of life are characterized by a thinning and sharpening of the facial contours. Dur ing these years, the support provided by intact teeth is critically impodant in main taining a symmetrical and pleasing facial appearance. The teeth, especially the front teeth (incisors) and the eye teeth (canines), pro vide direct support to the shape of the lips, corner oWhe.mouth, and front part of the cheeks. If these teeth are not replaced immediately, their loss can cause or accen tuate folding, drooping and hollowing of the facial tissues resulting in facial features that can be unattractive and downright unpleas ant. In the older person, loss of the bicuspids and molars (back teeth) accentuates the hollow configuration of the cheeks and deepens the natural lines and wrinkles. You only have one face. Don't let negligence keep it from looking as young as you are for life. Replace any missing teeth now! A public service with the aim of promoting better dental health environment.
